The lights are on
A new year has come and Call of Duty World at War brings its Soviet flag to the forefront, taking the player back to WWII in order to experience the final days of this epic conflict.
The design stays true to the series with diverging stories covering two sides of the conflict. In this case we experience the American struggle in the pacific front and the Soviet’s final march into Berlin. The level design is linear and your objectives are always clear, giving you more time to take cover and advance. Something worth noting however is the increased amount of graphic content in the game. The game is intended for mature audiences and they make it clear the moment you start it. Grainy war footage show live executions and the developers added bucket loads of blood and a dismemberment system with high caliber weapons. It doesn’t shy away from the reality of war and it gives the game a much darker tone. Graphically the game uses the same engine as last year’s installment and it benefits from it making it the best looking WWII first person shooter in the market.
In the Multiplayer department, WaW imports the same ranking system used by its predecessor. It functions perfectly fine and is just as addictive as ever. However, the awkward addition of vehicles does take away from the experience. The new coperative Nazi Zombies mode it spectacular, bringing a wave defence component featuring some of the best enemies anyone can face.Ze BROINS!!!!
Where it a stand alone title, World at War would be a spectacular shooter, but it becomes hard to recommend compared to the masterpiece that precedes it. Treyarch did their best to try and capture the sense of urgency and the connection to the characters in the previous game but they fall short or achieving the bar set for them. When it comes to WWII shooters World at War is the best of the genre, but with shooters in general, Call of Duty 4 is still a far more superior title. By placing the story in the last days of the war, Call of Duty World at War has sent a message to the industry: its time to move on to another war.
CoD:World at War is a great first-person shooter. Most levels are action packed and can be hard at times. The online multi-player is awsome. Also the Nazi Zombies game play is amazingly fun but better with multi-player.
Everyone hates on the WWII games, and I can't blame them if the game is just like its predecessor. COD5 brought banzai attacks, a gripping sniper mission, and Nazi Zombies. I don't recall these features in COD2 OR COD3. I personally enjoy WWII games
I love WWII games as well, dont get me wrong. The reason I have bothered to find out so much about this war was solely due to video games. However after playing dozens of WWII shooters, and even more FPS's I have grown a little tired with the formula. I have played sniper missions and dealt with Banzai attacks before (COD2 had an awesome final sniper scene in the last Russian mission and both Medal of Honor Rising Sun and Pacific assault took place in the Eastern front and had you dealing with Banzai attacks). I didn't think the game was bad, as a shooter it works just fine, it was just too generic. Nazi Zombies are amazing however
Ah, Nazi Zombies...Will they ever cease to entertain?
I think the reason there are SO *** MANY WW2 games is that was the war every man and son wanted to fight in, for a time. WW1 was mostly "Uh...War?" Vietnam was mostly "For God's sake...More War?" but WW2 was for the most part "War? Well, what better chance to show off my extreme Badassery!Of course I'll volunteer! MOMMA! IMMA GO SHOOT ME SOME NAZI'S!" Most gamers today are (hopefully) too young to have participated in said NAZI KILLIN, so they want to play games that put them there.
