New Behind The Scenes Multiplayer Video Shows Off Changes

Activision has released a video covering the changes to Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer mode. Kill streaks are now referred to as point streaks, and the video explains why. Players now receive streak credit for things beyond just kills, in an attempt to cater to different styles of players. The video also looks at the new types of Strike Packages.

The Assault strike package seems to be the traditional Call of Duty package, heavily rewarding those who gain kills without dying. The Support strike package caters to those interested in helping others out. Streaks don't reset on death, and you get access to items like sentry drones and other support type weapons. The Specialist strike package has the player begin with three perks, and for every two kills a new perk is unlocked. By the time you have eight kills, you have all the perks and are a super-powered soldier. Check out the video below to get all the details.

It seems like Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer will feel a bit different than previous entries. Is this a good thing? Or do you want the developers to simply stick to what has already been working?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 releases for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Nintendo Wii on November 8.

  • Alright GI community, I want a good, clean flame war. No hits below the belt, no kidney punches, and let's leave the mothers out of this. *DING**DING*
  • Man cant wait to play it.
  • It looks like a lot of fun.
  • i am glad they are making some needed changes. though i can still say i likely won't be getting this game for a good while after launch.
  • all the perks !!!! awesome !!
  • I still don't understand how people can call the COD series the same game. They've changed a lot in each game. Really, the only legitimate complaint I have about this game is that the graphics are pretty much the same as MW2. But Battlefield 3 on consoles looks about the same as Bad Company 2 as well...
  • I like it, gonna be great just like the past call of duty games.
  • Yes changes! I can't wait cod was getting so dull

  • We knew this already. All of it.
  • Getting another perk in just two kills is too easy. I don't think that is a good idea but I'll see. I honestly just want to see where the story goes.
  • *nods* The change to Strike Packages really does make perfect sense once you play with them. It will be very interesting to see the community adapt to the changes though...
  • Should be interesting. Can't wait!

  • Interesting. Looks more balanced to me, but I'm sure someone will cry "it's not fair!" C'mon, it is Call of duty...Ha

  • I am very impressed with the comments so far. :) No flamey statements. :D I am excited to get both BF3 and MW3, and I am considering getting CS:GO for 360 also.
  • I AM PERK MAN. That sounds cool I am glad they are mixing it up.
  • Nice. Really like the direction they're taking those streaks in. Don't know about the perk streaks, but we shall see how that plays out. I think it's going to be awesome overall though.

  • guns still sound plastic.
  • i just hope they kept the currency system...i liked it better than the level up system
  • I'll grant that it's a decent change of pace for CoD multiplayer. However:

    1. other players will hate Specialist players because they don't like the idea of making someone who already has a streak that much harder to kill;
    2. other players will hate Support players because their streaks don't reset on death; and
    3. other players will hate Assault players simply because everyone hates Pave Lows and Cobras and whatnot.

I am not in ANY WAY claiming that either class - oh, excuse me, "Strike Package" - is an unfair or broken play style, but merely warning you all that a totally new wave of b*tching, moaning and whining is coming your way down through those voice comms. Just be prepared.

Oh, and Activision: you got some BF3 in your MW3 there. Booyakasha!

(BTW, note how this article is, indeed, tagged "battlefield 3". Let the hate flow through you, young padawans.)

EDIT: I don't hate CoD, just like I don't hate God: it's the fan clubs I often have a problem with. I'll play MW3 at some point, but you won't see me in a pre-order line. That's all.
