New Trailer Shows Bound By Flame's Combat In Action

The latest trailer for the upcoming previous- and current-gen fantasy action game, Bound by Flame, shows its combat in action.

You can check out the trailer below with shows combat from the PlayStation 4 version of the game. It has a bit of a Dark Souls flare to it, and previously the game's project manager, Walid Miled, did say the game's combat is intentionally difficult calling it, "no walk in the park." You'll see assorted weapons and combat stances in the video, as well as a little bit of stealth.

Bound by Flame is heading to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on May 8. For more on the game, check out its original announcement here, as well as more details and its previous trailer here.

  • It would be nice if the enemies actually reacted to being hit. A slight stagger or something of that sort. Details like that make a huge difference for me. Looks nice though.
  • My question is why is it releasing on PS4 and PS3 and Xbox 360 but not on Xbox1
  • I'll probably check this out, not a huge fan of souls so hopefully this isn't too much like it.
  • It doesn't look like a metacritic 90 and above title, but I think this could be a good RPG fix on the PS4. Reminds me a little of Dark Souls, Witcher 2, and Dragon's Dogma.
  • No thanks. ill wait for The Witcher3
  • Not a fan of the random slo-mo and lack of knockback from player hits, and the stealth kill was a little wtf in how generic the animation was. Still though, I do love "difficult" games so maybe I'll come to like it later on.
  • It looks good but with darksouls 2 and the witcher around it will be kind of difficult to pick up (for my wallet), and im not liking the 100% damage reduction from guarding without even having a shield.
  • Looks okay. Seems a little more akin to Kingdom of Amalur. At 1:30 I'm pretty sure he pulls a gat, so I'm not sure what that's all about. Being an RPG nerd I do need something for my PS4, so this'll have to do until some of the heavy hitters release. I hope there's an option to turn on damage numbers.

  • The combat in this looks decent.
  • Considering my time with the developer's other RPGs, despite some rough edges, I'll probably pick this one up at some point.

  • I can't wait to get this. I need a RPG for my PS4. I love story driven RPGs and games with combat that require a tactical approach. Plus Dark Souls 2 was extremely lame.
  • I'm hoping this turns out to be good but I think its prob going to be one of those niche rpgs (two worlds, risen, divinity) which are hit or miss for me. Edit: Also I don't like when games get compared to dark souls since dark souls combat is very precise compared to majority of games out there. From what I can tell this game has combat that is more like niche rpgs I mentioned above because of the lack of feedback from hitting or being hit by enemies.
  • Boy those animations are awkward.
  • im interested

  • It's really just a Dragon Age/Souls ripoff. I was interested in it but now I don't think I'll bother with it.
  • I can't say I like the fact that enemies do not appear to react even slightly to your attacks. There's nothing that breaks immersion more than the feeling that your two handed sword has about as much physical impact on your enemy as rolled up newspaper would.
  • There's a few things wrong here. 1.Why isn't there any stun when you hit the enemies? 2.Why do developers think we want to action to slow down like that in the middle of a fight,it doesn't make the action any cooler looking. It's like developers just ignore all the thing past action games like Devil May Cry and God of War have done with the genre. I wouldn't even compare the combat to Dark Souls either.
  • As previously mentioned, I'm feeling a little put off by this gameplay trailer for most of what everyone else is saying. However, I'm a little more disappointed in the HUD presentation rather than the gameplay itself. I'm not quite sure why, as every other reason that people have stated previously is valid, but the HUD just looks ugly. I can't imagine staring at that for more than half an hour due to it just being so out of place compared to the detail the game itself has.

As always, this could be changed and polished before release and hopefully they will tack this improvement in with the rest of them.

  • I was interested in this game but now I'm not so sure about it anymore.
