Gearbox's follow-up to its 2009 hit Borderlands looks to build on everything that made the original game great. At its core, it retains its four-person co-op shooter roots, while shifting the action to a new location and introducing additional characters. A new trailer shows off just some of the sequel's new facets, while revealing a September release date.

“Borderlands 2 is a passion project, through and through,” said Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software. “The result is a sequel that has improved every successful aspect of Borderlands while innovating with an all-new experience.”

Look for the game September 18 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Early birds can also score a little extra loot via the Borderlands Premiere Club. This preorder bonus provides players with in-game swag including a golden key, vault hunter's relic, and the Gearbox gunpack.

I picked up Borderlands late last year and have been playing it in large quantities ever since. After viewing this trailer, I am completely impressed with the direction they are taking the sequel. It is turning out to be far more than I had anticipated. Props to you Gearbox.

This is by far my most anticipated game of the year. I love the Treyarch COD's and I love Biohazard, but absolutely no game has made me nearly as excited as Borderlands 2. I can't wait to jump back into Pandora and shoot every single thing that has the misfortune of walking into my line of sight. Everything about this game is great and by the looks of things, the sequel is gonna put some dual wielded automatic rifle shots to the head of any game that dares to release within a month of September 18th. I'm hopping over to GameStop first chance I get and pre-ordering this bad boy. Not because I give even the slightest #*!^ about any exlusive guns, gear, or loot, but because I want Borderlands 2 to be bought, paid for and waiting patiently for me when that clock turns from 11:59 pm to 12:00 am September 18th. Every night between then and now is just a complete waste of my time. And just in case you haven't picked up on my sheer obsession, let me just say that if it wasn't for Borderlands 2, I would be really pissed about the whole Mayan apocalypse thing this year. But, since I will have a full 3 months on Pandora, I say bring it on.

I had a friend who got me hacked shields and guns and we went to town. Every day during summer of 2010 my friends Adam, Josh, and I would play this game and I would still struggle to beat Kromrax (I believe I spelled it wrong) even with my modded guns and shields. Good times. Can't wait til this game comes out
