Is the character a big daddy?

Playing bioshock 2 i was expecting a completely different experience playing as a big daddy. Instead you are just as weak and limited as the original character who was not genetically modified. Because of this i couldn't help but feel unsatisfied and feel like this game was lacking in its expectations. Not to mention i was completely distracted from the story becuase I spent all my time searching for health, eve, ammo, and protecting little sisters while they probed dead bodies.
