It is kooky, wakky, and an overall good time.

You play Bayonetta a witch awakened after 500 years of sleep. Bayonetta, as a witch has made a deal with demons for power and thereby has to deliver bird-like angels to demons to stay out of hell. Bayonetta has a gun for each hand and one for each foot as well. The action focuses a lot of dodge enemy attacks. The game awards penalties to your score if you are hit. The comedy is silly Japanese style so as long as you know what to expect you will enjoy it. The stages are replayable so as you proceed through the story you can back track to earn more money to purchase new moves and items. If you haven't picked this up, please do.

Blog Post: Bayonetta delivers insane action and amazing visuals.

I'll admit that I was reluctant to pick up this title, considering that my back log of games was piling up on me. But being a fan of over the top action, this game seemed too wild to pass up. Only a handful of minutes into Bayonetta's story and I can honestly say that this game is more over the top than I could've ever expected. It took all of five seconds (and a scene of the titular character standing completely still on chunk of a clock tower as it falls through the sky at high speed) for the hook to set and Bayonetta to reel me in.
The visual presentation compliments the game's very original brand of excitement. Character models have fluid motion thanks to a solid frame rate (this is a review for the XBox 360 version. The PS3 version had some frame rate issues, but there is a patch available). The wild action sequences seem to jump right out of the screen and the landscapes couldn't look better. Whether you're witnessing the beauty of Paradiso, taking a stroll through Purgatorio, or fighting for dear life in Inferno, the stunning level designs will captivate you through each stage.
One liners and general comical banter set the tone for the games voice acting, which never takes itself too seriously. The sound effects of the battle sequences help deliver the reality-shattering attacks that Bayonetta doles out on her foes. Couple that with a soundtrack that couldn't be more fitting for a title like this and you have a match made in heaven.
Labeling Bayonetta as a typical button masher may not be entirely incorrect, but it manages to pull it off in a big way. There is definitely a method to its control scheme's madness . As you gain upgrades, your move set takes a turn from simple button mashing to well planned button combos that trigger amazing attacks that are carried out using everything from feet guns, to iron maidens and guillotines, to making a giant stiletto heel out of hair to crush enemies. Yes, you read that last part right. A giant stiletto heal made out of Bayonetta's hair. This game is as odd as it is over the top.
Like any good book, I found it hard to put this game down. I had a very small amount of issues with it, such as a certain missile sequence taking a little longer than I wanted and finding it easy to get turned around when having to run on the sides of buildings. These issues weren't so frustrating that it made the game annoying. With a wide range of difficulty settings, it can either be very easy to approach or a total nightmare. After clearing the game, you can start a "new game plus" in which all items and rankings you collected will carry over making it a game worth dominating over and over. Bayonetta's crazy action, amazing visuals, and witty writing are enough to convince me that one play through this game just isn't enough.

Wiki: Bayonetta Guides

Guides for Bayonetta

Wiki Page: Bayonetta

Codes
(10) - Engage Witch Time successfully 10 times.

Achievement Guide/FAQ

Tread Not So Softly: For this one, you have to kill an enemy by jumping on them. This is most easily done by leaping off of the small angel head enemies as they are very weak. Using the whip (Kulshedra) attack where you grab the enemy (press and hold Y) and leap off of them is a great way to get this achievement.

Higher and Higher: This can be difficult unless you’re in a specific area. During Alfheim #10 in Chapter 5, Verse 8, use the whip to attack one of the many floating angel head enemies and hold Y to latch onto them. This will allow you to double jump off of them. After leaping off one floating head, attack and latch onto another. Kill 10 enemies in this fashion without touching the ground to unlock the achievement/trophy.

Just In the Nick Of Time: In Chapter Two, successfully dodge the runaway streetcar that slides towards you by jumping over it.

Touch And It Will Hurt, Touch and It Will REALLY Hurt, Nice And Easy: all 3 Of these Achievements can only be earned with the Moon of Mahaa-Kalaa accessory equipped. The accessory is activated by pressing forward on the stick just as an enemy attacks you, blocking the attack. The counterattack requires you to attack as soon as you’ve successfully blocked an attack. Do 10 of each and 3 attack counters in a row for all 3 achievements.

You Want to Touch Me?, Nice Try: Very simple, engage Witch Time by dodging an attack with RT or R2 at the last minute 10 times, and then 10 times in a row. You can do this anywhere, and at any time. If you’re having trouble, try using one of the statues that lets you shoot a lightning bolt at yourself as you can control when the lightning will strike.

Wicked Weaver, Wicked Weave Master: Both these achievements/trophies require the player to utilize Dodge Offset, a technique that allows you to pause a combo to dodge an enemy attack and resume the combo from where you left off instead of having to start over. For example P-P-P-P-K is a combo where the K is a wicked weave hair based attack, but if the combo is broken by using a dodge it will just be a regular kick after you attack. Dodge Offset will allow you to finish the combo after dodging by holding down the P or K button (in this case P) while you dodge, and then finishing the combo with the wicked weave attack (in this case pressing K) after the dodge. Successfully perform the technique once for Wicked Weaver and 20 times for Wicked Weaver Master.

Come Here Little Boy: This one requires you to taunt and kill 10 enemies without taking any damage. This is difficult as enemies become more aggressive and difficult to stagger or knock back after you taunt them. Using the Gaze of Despair automatically taunts every enemy that comes into play, saving you the effort of taunting everyone individually at the expense of enraging all the enemies on screen at once as opposed to individually.

Double, Double, Toil and Trouble: Very simple, just create 20 Concoctions (items) from the menu using the ingredient items you find throughout levels.

The Ice Witch: To freeze enemies you’ll need the Odette weapon, the ice skates, which will freeze enemies as long as you only use kick attack combos on them. Freeze 20 for the achievement/trophy. Chapter 6 has the record pieces you’ll need to unlock Odette at the Gates of Hell.

The Deepest Cut: Using the Shuraba, use the charge attack by holding down Y or triangle, and wait until it’s fully charged before attacking. Kill 20 enemies in this fashion for the achievement/trophy.

Naughty Tentacles: In chapter 9, Bayonetta will fall through a large group of tentacles with large yellow weak points. If you're precise you can just aim Bayonetta through the weak point and destroy the tentacles, or you can air attack them. If you need to slow your fall and reposition, repeatedly press the Y/Triangle button to have Bayonetta do an air attack which will almost completely stop her and allow you to get in the right position. If you miss a tentacle, make sure to miss the landing point at the end, so that Bayonetta will die and respawn right before the tentacles, giving you another chance.

Switching Between Fire/Electricty With Druga Weapons

When you have both Drugas equipped, do a 360 motion with the analog stick then press Y to switch the fire and electricity Drugas between your hands and feet.

Bonus Lollipops During Cutscenes

In every cutscene where Bayonetta is sucking on a lollipop, hold down the button corresponding with the color Green is A, Blue is X, etc and you'll receive a bonus lollipop item

Original Sega Music

During Chapter 8 Verse 3 and Chapter 14 the game plays remixes of BGM from Afterburner and Space Harrier. To hear the original tracks, hold down both LB and LT.

Blog Post: Bayonetta (Does NOT deserve a 9.00)

One word: Horrible

Blog Post: Bayonneta better than expected

Bayonetta works well on many levels. Its almost Identical to the Devil May Cry saga and also shows remnents of the newer Ninja Gaiden titles. When i first started playing, i was ready to take it back. The first scene is awful and the music is ridiculous and repetitive. But as the games progresses it really starts to show you all that Sega has accomplished with the new title. Stylish "Torture Attacks" are a wonderful addition to the already beautiful combat. The storyline is as plain as they come but the action is some of the best i've seen all year. There are better titlesout there right now but when it comes to action, gore, and just plain beautiful graphics, at the moment Bayonetta is second to none.

Blog Post: bay....loading....one....loading....etta

Now this is only for the PS3 version of the game, I have not tried it on the 360

Usually I have the patience of a saint when it comes to playing video games (dying, redoing certain levels, dying again) but this one was able to break me of that. First let just say that the graphics were outstanding, controls were simple, and the storyline was great. The thing that really got underneath my skin was the loading, now this was not just where it would load after every chapter, no this was when you about to fight a boss, upgrade your weapons, kick a bad guy, move for a constant 5 seconds, and every clip in a movie. Every time it started to load, it sent me in another dimension of rage that I cannot describe. At the end of the game, I pretty sure that the load time is about equal to the amount of game play. so with that being said here are the ratings

graphics- 9.0, the graphics where colorful, well done, just plain outstanding

sound- 9.0, voices were well done, and the music just matched perfectly with the gameplay

gameplay- 4.0, when it was not loading every sec, the gameplay was excellent

replay- no, cannot go through that type of torment again

Blog Post: What is all the hype about?

What is all the hype about? Yes, you get to do some pretty amazing moves during every single fight, but getting those combos to work is another matter entirely. I must disagree with GI about the controls of this game being responsive. Around half the time when you dodge, you get hit anyway. Nothing is more frustrating than the most important move of the entire game failing you. Then combat is so complex that your camera angle is never where you want it to be. It would be a lot easier to execute those cool cinematic-like moves if you could see yourself, instead of a giant enemy, or several enemies, blocking your view. This causes even more trouble with the dodging.

The upbeat DDR-style music is fun at first, but it gets old very fast, especially since the repertoire of songs is pretty limited. It also doesn't fit the game. Bayonetta has two quirks- lollipops and dancing to that kind of music. The game does nothing to flesh out the dancing, though, causing the idea to lose a lot of weight.

What the modelers put into the character's details, they left out of the environments. While some of the scenery is alright, most of what you get to take time looking at makes you not want to bother.

The thing that drags this game down the most is the plot. Other games similar to this from Capcom, such as Devil May Cry, don't need any explanation other than what the game provides. Bayonetta attempts to build a much richer world. However, it doesn't get past the attempt at all. In the early stages of the game, three places are mentioned- Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. There is hint that there is a bigger plot uniting them, but no one bothers to explain further. Since the game takes place within Purgatorio and Paradiso, is divided into Chapters and Verses, and EA released Dante's Inferno around the same time, it seems like Capcom thought they would jump on that marketing bandwagon without giving it any other thought. Bayonetta never fully understands her goal throughout the game, so neither do you, leaving you wondering why you are still bothering to fight all the baddies. Between being bombarded by repetitive flashbacks you pick up vague clues about an overarching theme but you are never given anything to work for. Even when more is revealed to you, you get the feeling that the entire Bayonetta team put all their effort into developing cool moves instead of thinking about a decent storyline.

Blog Post: Guns, Hair, and Lollipops

Devil May Cry was one of the craziest games of its time back when it was released on the good old PlayStation 2, and now the game's creator, Hideki Kamiya, tops his previous efforts with Bayonetta, the most over-the-top and stylish action game ever made.

[Excerpt]

It's hard to believe it, but the Sarah Palin look-alike manages to make Devil May Cry seem like a tame warm-up to this absurd adventure. With some crazy which magic and guns on her feet, Bayonetta goes over the top, but can reach the sky?

Talking about the story feels kind of pointless with a game like Bayonetta, that obviously knows and relishes its absurdity, but I'll do it anyway. Long ago, there was a conflict between two groups of witches, and one side was nearly eliminated.

The amnesiac Bayonetta is the only Umbra witch left, but over the course of the game, she slowly regains her memory with the help of a lame love and a little girl who looks almost exactly like her.

            '

The story is played out through cutscenes, and some boring still images on film strips that resemble something mad with G-Mod. While the latter maybe overused, you won't notice. The game's focus is on the action, and as such the plot is basically there as a means of moving you from one epic encounter to the next.

While Bayonetta's core, the combat, may keep you guessing with its wide array of possibilities, the game itself isn't quite as creative with its progression. It's more of a repeating cycle. Fight enemies, fight bosses, get graded on how well you did, watch a cut-scene, and repeat.

Don't worry about repetition, though. Bayonetta somehow manages to make each moment feel fresh, and it's obvious that careful attention was paid to each fight. For example, enemies don't stand around as punching bags, and the game is good at mixing up monster types for each encounter. You'll never know what to expect, and the constant surprises the game throws at you make it hard to put down the controller.

Bayonetta starts of with a bang, immediately giving you a shot of adrenaline and excitement that few games can match with there finales. What's more impressive is that the game manages to only multiply in craziness. Bosses you fight early in the game are later reused as standard enemies, sometimes more than one in each fight. Fights that are on par with some final bosses in other are there as a standard encounter.

If you want to be negative, you could say this means monster types are being recycled. But isn't recycling a good thing? In this case, it is, as you'll truly learn each enemies strengths and weaknesses, and enemies that were once difficult bosses seem like any other enemy.

That's not to say mastering the combat system is easy. By the time I finished Bayonetta, I realized I had only learned part of an extremely complex fighting system. This isn't a game you can play through just once. You'll need to replay it multiple times if you want to hone your skills and become an expert of Bayonetta's various abilities.

Even if you're not into replaying, you'll still get a health 15 hours of gameplay. Plus, after you're done, there are hidden arena stages, another two unlockable difficulties, and plenty of extra moves and powers to purchase.

Throughout the experience, there are some stupid one-off events like motorcycle driving and on-rails shooting, but they are more boring than they are fun. There are also quick-time events similar to God of War, but they don't add much to the game as a whole.

Watching Bayonetta, you may think it's a crazy button-masher or an overly-complex action game. It's not. The game plays like a dream from the moment you push the start button. The combat is deep, but never so complex that you feel overwhelmed. As you're skills grow, so does your arsenal and list of moves, ensuring you always have something new to master. Simply put, Bayonetta's combat has no equal.

Bayonetta starts the game with a handgun attached to each of her hands and feet, but that's only the beginning. You can pretty much assign any weapon you can think of in place of the, providing combat with astounding variety and creativity. A weapon doesn't just slightly alter another's move set. It has its own combos and its own possibilities.

For a game as fast and crazy and Bayonetta, it may be odd that the witch has her own version of slow-mo. Dubbed Witch Time, the slow-mo is activated every time you dodge an attack from an enemy, giving you the opportunity to deal some serious damage on your foes. You're going to want to use it, as it adds another layer to an already deep game, but also changes what seems to be an offense focused game.

The graphics in Bayonetta are purely amazing (at least on the Xbox 360, which was the version I played. I heard the PS3 version has some serious issues). The monster designs are appropriately evil while still maintaining an angelic look. The levels, especially the latter ones, are so large in scale and so impressive in scope that you'll find your jaw on the floor. It's inspired and unique, resulting in one of the prettiest games out there.

It's hard to imagine another game post-Bayonetta that could provide as deep and enjoyable a combat system. God of War, Ninja Gaiden, and all the other action games of the world better bulk up; a new champion has arrived.

Blog Post: There ain't no party like Bayonetta's tea party

Bayonetta is first and foremost over-the-top action. The only way you could get more intense violence is actually having the blood shoot out of the TV onto the player's face (someone jot that down for me.) However, what really sets it apart is that it takes just enough from other games (like God of War) and changes it just enough to be original in its own right. Finishers usually consist of either button mashing or joystick rotating, but battle is so frantic you actually use the time to let your reflexes rest and just punish the square button. The story is cliche at times, but the Bayonetta has style to spare. Every time I found myself thinking, "Dear lord... did they really just say that...?" Bayonetta would chime in to let me know I wasn't playing this game because I thought it was realistic. I played Bayonetta through three times because of just the opposite. It was ridiculously unrealistic. On the easier modes, you feel like a God trampling foes beneath your stillettos; on the harder ones you feel like a master of your reflexes for overcoming obviously stronger foes. This game bridges the gap between hardcore action gamers of Ninja Gaiden and more casual gamers that play the normal mode of Devil May Cry while throwing in the over-the-top feeling of God of War. The upgrade system is also just enough. Almost everything has to be bought after your first play through (You'll never have enough "money" to afford probably even one accessory on your first play through.) This leads me to my next point; Bayonetta is amazing for replayability. You'll have to play through a few times to purchase everything (costumes, weapons, moves, accessories, etc.)
If you want a solid action game, at least give Bayonetta a chance. Just don't take the game too seriously. Play it like it's ridiculous and you'll find you couldn't ask for more from a girl pitted against an army of angels.

Forum Post: Re: Demo not that good?

That's the main reason i bought it actually!! i TOTALLY dig her character model.

Forum Post: So, has anyone played on Very Easy or Easy yet?

Yeah, It was wayyyy too easy

Blog Post: best game ever

This game was so fun and had good graphics, it beat DMC for my favorite action game, and i really hope they do make another one, although the guns you start out with are basically useless later on, you can just simpy switch to your shotguns, the controls are very responsive, not like the laggy controls of DMC 3, and even though there are only 3 melee weapons( at least that ive found)you can switch weapons in combat, and any battle can be approached differently with the same weapon, this is truly the best action game ive played

Blog Post: Oh Bayonetta, This review is for you ---

I'm just gonna say that I am a diehard action fan and there is only one game now that can fill my hunger... And her name is Bayonetta. Ryu Hayabusa, Dante (Devil May Cry Dante, not Dante's Inferno Dante. Keeping up?) and yeah I will say it, even Kratos have to admire Bayonetta's beauty and hardcore ass kickage. From the second I started the game until the end of the credits, every single moment was blood pumping action. It really went above and beyond any expectation I had for the game and I am in love with this game. I'm not giving the game a 9.75 just because its awesome and I love it (Even though I could....), but rather from the side that knows a great action game when I see one. Bayonetta's seamless controls and fluid combos just make the game absolutley feel like you don't have a controller in your hands. The boss fights are just out of this world and if you take the time to pick up every book and read them the story is actually quite good. The game does a pretty good job of adding some comical elements which I think worked out perfectly, because your always in some kind of crazy action packed fight for about 95% of the game. But there are moments when the scenes just seem a little bit rediculous, but that aside the cutscenes are really awesome to watch. The characters in the game are few but you probrably won't even notice because all you want is the next cool weapon to ravage all of your enimies with. The soundtrack is unique because the music isn't your normal epic build up to an awesome guitar riff or drum solo, but rather a more femanistic choice of songs that works perfectly. I will say though that the game is pretty difficult, so don't expect to breeze through the game (Unless your playing it on easy.... Wimps). Oh yeah, for all the achievers out there, expect to only get around 450 gamerscore points as getting 1000 in this game will take a lot of your time. So all in all I will say that Bayonetta now defines the hardcore action genre in my opinion. Any games that come out now have to live up to the standard that Bayonetta has set, and that is a very high bar I might add.

Wiki Page: Bayonetta Weaponds Guide

Here is a guide put together to help you guys find all the LP's in Bayonetta. It has an incredible combat system. Plus despite what other people say, I like the story. The over the top action sequences want you to keep progressing through the game. Those "mini-game" sequences were also enjoyable and made me felt like I never was doing the same thing over and over again. And if your a perfectionist like me, there is a lot of replay. I found myself going back to previous levels even before I beat the game because I was not satisfied with my score and time. A great game if you like, Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, or even Kingdom Hearts and Rachet & Clank; as it has a few nice platforming touches added to it.

Blog Post: Fly Me to the Moon

This is one of the best games, of its genre, I've ever had the pleasure of playing. It delivers on so many levels I've had a hard time explaining how good it is to my friends without stumbling over which aspect to talk about first. It's obvious that Kamiya and company took a lot of time to really pay attention to even the smallest details. I can't recommend this game enough to any and all fans of action games. I could see why some of the elements might not appeal to a western audience, but I'll take Bayonetta's soundtrack over DMC's awful *** metal soundtrack any day of the week. Hiro's additions to the soundtrack alone make it full of win. If not for the ps3 version's excessive loading I would score this game a perfect 10. On that note, if you have any patience at all the loading isn't a deal breaker.

Blog Post: A New Protagonist and Coat of Paint for the Devil May Cry Series

Let me begin by saying this game is thoroughly enjoyable in its own right and should be bought and played by any fans of the action genre. The stylish sequences, ridiculous hyper-sexuality, and fluid combat make up for the brain-dead story and horrible driving portions of the game.

However, I think the people praising this game for its amazing combat should really pop in any of the newer Devil May Cry games for another spin, because this is essentially a prettied up clone! The battle sequences aren't quite as brutal, and the checkpoints more frequent, but taken on the whole this game offers nothing original. I was caught up in all the praise of this game and the high marks it has received from players and critics, but in all honestly its a Devil May Cry clone with a worse plot. None of these negative comments take away from the fact that this game is incredibly fun to play, and it is probably the most polished action game of its kind for the xbox360.

Wiki Page: How to Beat Jubileus *Final Boss*

Lol i start with the final boss in the game. Now before you flip out at fighting a giant divine boss take to heart that this will be one of the easier boss battles in the game on any difficulty if you follow this.

Now at the beginning most of her attacks will consist of trying to punch you in this order *if you facing her directly. (Left, right, charge left) after the last attack smack her hand untill she learns her lesson, another attack will be her slamming her wings *i think there wings* into the ground and using a attack of (Molton rocks, Ice balls, Lighting, Raining fire, or fire bird* If you hear a screech of a eagle run and jump as its the hardest of the 4 to dodge. Now whenever she uses this attack try to get to the wing before she attacks and hit it untill you destroy it. After so much damage she will yell and warp the ground into a lava field. Just quickly follow the paths and destroy 4 of her wings. *not to hard* Next she will warp it into a ice field*this is very hard* DO NOT and i repeat DO NOT fall off the edge as it will freeze you and she will kill you in a sec by spamming attacks at you while your frozen. But without falling do the same as you did in the lava part. *Note* after every 4 wings destryoed on each part *Except lighting cause than its like 8* Note*that you will enter witch time and can jump up to her face and attack it before she warps the area.*

Finally she will warp it into a air battle you must jump from rock to rock to destroy her wings. After you destroyed them all youll have another chance to attack her. This is the last warp area. After that its back to wing attacks in the ground and punches. Just follow the stragety as earlier. One thing is diffent. She will use two new attacks. One which sends time warp portals at you that turn you into a child. Though they do little damage you are slower. Just dodge to the best of you extent untill you turn back. Next is a attack where she slams all her wings into the ground. When you see this run......run fast....turn into panther mode. She creates a black hole and now matter how much health you have its a instant kill.

But besides those two new attacks just continue to attack her as before than soon you should get climax. After this its simple just run up your hair all the way while dodgeing her slow attacks and climax again, attack her face and then she will fall, this is it preform your final climax and you beat her.........or have you.For the final part you must steer her body into the sun. Sounds fun but you can not hit any other planet or else youll have to do it all over again. But once you land her into the sun thats it. Thats the boss of Jubileus

Weapons of choice:

Sword * i foget name but its a sword for hands* and guns for feet *Main this setup*

Rocket launcher for hands, Claws for feet *use only if your good a pulling off the combos quickly*

Blog Post: not better than darksiders

u guys blasted darksiders, and gave this game props i dont know if it is just the writers bias or what, but while i like this game a bit i think darksiders is way better, i personally think Ao2;TFD was better than bayonetta and u beat that game up in the review. that all being said i do like this game, its definately worth playin
