DICE Details Battlefield 4 Weapon Customization

In the latest update on the official Battlefield blog, DICE has offered new details and a video on just how customizable the weapons of Battlefield 4 will be.

DICE has tripled the number of available accessories from Battlefield 3, and increased the number of available slots on all of the guns. Taking cosmetic options into account, for example, the assault rifle (one of many different classes of weapons) will have 240,000 different variations alone.

Battlefield 4 is coming to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC October 29, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions available at the launches of those consoles, which will be November 15 and and 22 respectively.

  • Sweeet! I'm just wondering if they will even have character customization (other than changing camouflages)

  • That's great but will they actually make a difference on how the weapon performs cause they sure as hell did nothing in BF3

  • To be perfectly honest I don't care about Battlefield 4, I'd like some Mirrors Edge 2 news. (not GameInformers fault) I don't know what Dice is doing over there but I believe that more money needs to be spent on games that break away from the mold a little.
  • I'd just like to point out that you can't put canted iron sights on that weapon... No rail where they are paced. Same goes with the majority of the weapons I've seen so far from BF4. Of course, they could be welded to the gun I guess. However, it is just a game, and in games, we can be crazy Japanese he/she types with pink, spiky hair and  we can swing a sword that is twenty times our size around like it is plastic. So, Canted irons on a gun that has no rail where they are placed is fine by me.

  • This looks great, reminds me of the weapon customization in Blacklight Retribution :D

  • I will do the smart thing this time around and wait for the inevitable BF4 Premium Edition at 60$.

  • Woah. That looks so... complicated.

  • I'm curious as to how they're going to implement the canted ironsights on a console controller

  • Too cool

  • This is pretty damn cool, I had no idea there were THAT many camos in the game. Maybe that means we won't be getting boring challenges and rewards will be more than just another camo.

  • this is what I want!

  • Call me old fashion but I doubt I'd ever sink time into customizing all of my guns appearances. But I like that I'd have the option.

  • That just converted me. I'm convinced.

  • If only they spent as much time on fixing their terrible netcode in their games.

  • not a fan of huuuuge customization like this. Always balancing issues. Having 240 000 customizations.. that will be pretty insane. I do understand that a lot of it is cosmetic, but there are clearly a lot of ways to duke out your weapons now. It looks even more like how call of duty and how they setup their weapon customization scheme. That being said.. i'm not really sold. In battlefield 3, there was a lot of variety when it came to weapons in multiplayer.

Every weapon was good at their own thing for a particular role.. Now we can make the ultimate weapon customization and rape, thus everyone will use that same kit. Just like in call of duty, a lot of the time you'd see people playing with the exact same setup.... I just don't know about this now :/

I know i'll get flamed for this but that's just my opinion from what i've seen so far.
  • There is literally nothing here that I haven't seen in a dozen games since call of duty 4 came out.
  • How about they don't run the game on Origin. Basically have to play the game with 3 programs running? That was uh...well not well executed 1. Login to Origin Client 2. Battlelog starts in web browser 3. Join server and then game starts in yet another window C'mon EA that's just ridiculous! Haha. Man the game is fun though I just think they could have done a MUCH better job in game interface
  • Oh? Yesh

  • Weapon customization doesn't matter much to me. What does matter is that the weapon all be balanced and allow freedom in game-play style.
