2K and Gearbox have delivered some new information about Battleborn that gives us a better look at what to expect from the game. There's also a new, flashy trailer that gives us a look at some of the 25 heroes.

Battleborn will have three main modes when it arrives. Players can jump into the story by themselves or with a team of up to five online. Gearbox is designing the game so that there is value in replaying story missions for better loot.

There's also a competitive five-versus-five multiplayer mode with three different game types. Incursion plays out like a typical MOBA. The first team to destroy the enemy base (with the help of AI minions) wins.

Devastation is a capture-point type. Meltdown is a variation of Smite's Arena mode. Instead of each team having a scoring zone to protect, the battle is focused at the center of the map where a single incinerator serves as a goal. You want your minions to sacrifice themselves in it, as you try to stop the opposing creeps.

In addition to Battleborn's MOBA-style in-match progression system, each character will level up to a maximum of ten outside of play. This will unlock options in the helix tree and more skins.

Player profiles also have a "command rank." With progression comes badges, titles, and profile loot that benefits any hero the player uses.

Battleborn is listed for release "this winter." 2K isn't pinning that down to 2015 though, and Winter typically signifies the first quarter of the calendar year and not the last. We can expect the game before March 31, 2016, but this leaves both 2K and Gearbox wiggle room.

Regardless of when it's due out, Battleborn will be coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. For more, check out our coverage hub from the August 2014 issue.
