Multiplayer Features Joker, Bane, And The Dynamic Duo

Fans have often questioned what a multiplayer scenario for the Arkham series might look like. Today, we get our first look at three-team competitive play for Batman: Arkham Origins.

In the trailer below, we see three-man teams led by Bane and Joker facing off. But there's a twist. Batman and Robin are on the scene, making for interesting asymmetrical action.

The criminals seem to use a variety of gadgets and guns, with the dynamic duo having access to grapnel guns, batarangs, cape gliding, and in Robin's case, a staff. The multiplayer mode is being developed by Splash Damage, who most recently released the ambitious, but flawed, Brink. Batman: Arkham Origins arrives on October 25, 2013, for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC.

The online mode will not be available on Wii U.

  • Let the unnecessary b***ching begin.
  • Wow. That looks REALLY interesting... I just have no idea how any of it will play. Do a few lucky individuals get to play the named characters and then the others are resigned to the minions? I wouldnt mind personally, but I know a lot of people that would make unhappy. Also, do Batman and Robin stand a competitive chance of "winning"? And how is that accomplished...? This just left me with more questions than answers.

  • I'd rather have a great single player game, no matter what the multiplayer looks like.

  • I'm seriously nauseated by the fact that they're neglecting the Wii U. I pre-ordered my copy for the Wii U and now I'm switching it to the PS3. I just want to buy all of my games for the Wii U. Is that too much to ask?

  • Just pre-ordered Arkham Origins yesterday. This definitely looks ambitious, I'm gonna reserve judgement until I actually get to play it though. I think it's neat they've found a way to work Dick Grayson Robin into the game and I assume the competitive MP's progression system will involve unlocking new guns and traps for Joker and Bane and new gadgets/attacks for Batman and Robin along with maybe new costumes as well. I'm also not ruling out the possibility of Joker, Bane, and Robin joining Deathstroke as challenge map DLC characters somewhere down the line. Also, to those worried about Splash Damage and their work on Brink, Brink was actually a pretty solid shooter with some interesting ideas and concepts that was kept from greatness by really shoddy bot A.I.

  • I have to to get the game on the WiiU because my PS3 is broken. But no muliplayer isn't that big of a deal to me.

  • So what you're telling me is... Batman can completely disrupt the game by trolling only 1 team. And now he can be killed... and just respawn. That doesn't sit right.

  • While it makes no sense for it to not be on Wii U, after seeing that Activision did it so well on the Wii U Black Ops, I'm still getting the Wii U version.  I generally don't buy games to play online.  I barely have enough time to play them as it is.

  • And the cycle never ends. Seems like every game nowadays has to have freakin multiplayer. I thought the challenge maps in Arkham City were a perfect addition to the game for replay, but adding MP is just pointless imo. Still gonna get the game and love it, but I'm disappointed that they fell into the "gotta have MP" category.

    And even though I don't like MP, I still feel bad that the Wii U guys just keep getting the short end of the stick. I swear, the Wii U and Vita are just getting no love nowadays.

  • The Turf idea is cool, and the 3 teams is cool. But turning this into a FPS or TPS doesn't really cut it for me. Sure the thugs have guns, but I would have rather it been all the villains fighting for turf, not just two, and there thugs are AI controlled maybe. Also, if players can be Bane or Joker or either of the Dynamic Duo, then players who end up as thugs will feel cheated, unless it's 4 person multiplayer, and the thugs are AI. If that's the case, I feel much better about the multiplayer, but they should add other villains into multiplayer to play as so more than 4 people could play.
