The lights are on
Lets just say that I would not mind going to Arkham City for vacation. Arkham City opens up with Bruce Wayne making a speech about how the newly opened Arkham City is not a safe place. Well, lets just say that he was right. Arkham is a dangerous place but it is also very beautiful. The Dark Knight returns with some awesome gadgets that will help him take down his foes.
If you had a problem with Arkham Asylums length and no replay value (which is understandable), well don`t sweat. I spent hours playing Arkham and I only have 40 percent of the game complete. Arkham City is not a game that gives players a little freedom (like Arkham Asylum), it is a full out open world game with some RPG elements to it. Arkham City added what I thought was missing in Arkham Asylum, and that is the side quests. These side quests are not just little short ones either. I felt engaged with these, I was determined to finish each side quest to unveil the ending.
The combat in Arkham City is still as fun as every, nice and simply. Wandering the beautiful City and encountering goons is always fun. Remember it is a big city, you will encounter a lot of goons waiting for you to walk by. The Dark Knight pulling off some brutal moves on thugs is always rewarding. The Dark Knight is not the only one who can kick some a**; however, Catwoman is a playable character. She is very fast and can kick some serious butt. She only has a small part, but in the end of the game the player will have to make an important decision while playing as Catwoman.
The story line has improved. Hugo Strange is the main villain for the bat. Batman needs to find a cure for a disease while trying to figure out what Hugo`s plan is, and what is the mysterious Protocol 10 is; which let me tell ya, once you figure out what it is, you will be blown away. I wish the Joker had a bigger part in this game, but when you have so many of batman`s old enemies returning, its hard to complain.
I have a complaint; however, I wish that while fighting a boss, batman would move faster. He does those slow turns which gets annoying at some points. A small problem but not enough to ruin the game.
With The Dark Knight returning better equipped, its hard not to be impressed. The bat can soar threw the air, kick butt, and of course use detective mode when needed to surpass obstacles. The story is a good one,the characters are fantastic, and the launching of Protocol 10 is one of the most memorable moments of the year. The game also throws out back to back to back twists that you will not see coming. The last 3 hours of the game will grab hold of you, and you will not want to stop playing. If you have the Catwoman DLC, be sure to stick around for the end credits. Catwoman has about 30 minutes of game play once the game concludes. Batman`s newest adventure is one that should not be missed. You don`t even have to be a comic book fan to enjoy Arkham City. This game is truly and elite contender for Game of the Year. 9.75/10
