Meet The Actors Behind Assassin’s Creed Unity’s Cast
by Mike Futter on Oct 16, 2014 at 07:09 AM

Assassin’s Creed Unity follows in the series footsteps of blending fiction with historical figures. In a new video from Ubisoft, you’ll see Arno and Elise alongside the Marquis de Sade, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Maximillen de Robespierre.

If you’re confused why the characters speak with an English accent despite being French, that’s a bit complicated (even more so since the actors don’t seem to have British accents). According to creative director Alex Amancio, it’s a combination of the fictional Animus tech and the period setting.

“The idea is that the Animus is translating everything into the language you’re playing in,” Amancio told Ubisoft’s official blog. “That’s why, since you’re an Anglophone, you’re hearing all the dialogue and cinematics in English. It would really make no sense for there to be a French accent because that would mean that this French character is trying to address you in accented English. Everyone in the game is not trying to speak English for your benefit.”

Assassin’s Creed Unity is out on November 11 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. For more, check out our coverage from the September 2014 issue.
