New Screens Showcase Visual Upgrade

A number of Assassin’s Creed fans missed out on the Vita-exclusive Liberation when it released in 2012. If you were part of that group that never got to go adventuring with Aveline, Ubisoft is releasing Assassin’s Creed: Liberation HD next week for download  on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC for $19.99.

To help you make up your mind whether the new visuals are worth the price, Ubisoft sent along three comparison shots that show off the visual upgrade. Take a look at the new screens, read our review of the Vita original, and then let us know whether you’ll be picking up Liberation HD in the comments below.

  • I don't consider the Vita to be "Standard Def" given that it's resolution is actually higher than 480. Not a lot higher, but it still looks every bit as good on that small screen as a typical PS3 game does on a TV. Which was kind of the point.
  • Yes but will the HD upgrade make the story any more fluid and less nonsensical?
  • Interesting. Looks good so far! Can't wait to play it.

  • I'll be getting this, $20 isn't bad, and I never had the vita.

  • The notoriety system in this game was horrible. Its like every time you did anything "su***ious" you had to use your different "persona" and tear down pages, assassinate people and all this time wasting crap. Too bad too cause the pacing was pretty solid and overall I found it to be pretty fun
  • Nice. Look forward to getting it for a cool $30.
  • Hopefully they can find away to add the Vita's terrible mechanics into the console version. Such immersive gameplay when you use the Vita to open a letter or pointing the Vita at a light, I'd be disappointed if console gamers missed out on it.
  • The models do look better, but to me the lighting looks very "flat" in the HD version.
  • But the Vita was in HD, not SD!

  • vita for SD. well, instead of SD, might call it the "vita" version. IMO.

  • I tried liberation on Vita and just couldn't get into it. Changing the outfits and stuff felt more like a hassle and less of a new gameplay twist. I don't see this being a big seller. Will this even be worth the effort?

  • Is it just me or does the lighting look better in "SD"?

  • It looks more like the lighting was just improved. I can't see much difference other than that. Edit: after looking at it some more, the characters mights have been rounded just abit, and the light wasn't really improved, just not as harsh.
  • Cool beans.

  • Bigger images would've been nice.

  • If this wasn't 19.99 I would be very upset that they rerelease another recent game.
  • my only problem with this is that it´s not retail but well I might buy it sometime.

  • It depends on if my neighbors are buying it.

  • I know I'll be getting this game. Always wanted to play this one ever since it was announced. And I just love more Assassin's Creed.
  • now can they update the vita version and render it at full vita resolution, instead of rendering it at a smaller resolution and scaling it up?

i loved the game on vita, i got it for 12 bucks during the E3 sale over the summer and loved (mostly) every second. definitely a great game although the multiplayer is boring and dlc would have been nice. Here's hoping for another Assassins Creed for vita!!!!
