Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Video Walks Us Through Naval And On-Foot Combat

If you tuned into any of the live stream presentations coming out of Gamescom, then this video will be familiar. Now it includes commentary from Black Flag director Ashraf Ismail.

The video offers over five minutes of uninterrupted gameplay. You will see cutscenes merge into naval combat, merge into on-foot combat and traversal, and into a nice teaser for the story.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC on October 29, with Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions to release shortly after. For our hands-on impressions of the game, check out our preview from Gamescom.

  • Is it just me, or does Edward have many identical animations to Connor?
  • Why does Edward put on so much eye shadow.
  • I wanna play this game. It actually looks like fun.

  • Wow, was not expecting anything from Black Flag after AC III but it looks really fun even if it is just the ship battles.

  • I'm just...not sold. =/
  • i hate vehicle missions. the controls are rarely any good. here's an entire game of them. hopefully the ship combat will be better than AC3 assassin combat.
  • No Naval Combat Multiplayer, though :/
  • Well it is impressive say the least. There are noticeable improvements and additions that the other titles did not have in the series. Yet no a pre-order regardless...already got my next few months full of other titles and GTAV is next month and that will take up a lot of my time as well following BF4 and Watch Dogs (which I am far more impressed with than the rest)....sadly this is on the list of "Price Drops and Sells".

  • Edward Kenway just looks extremely fake to me for some reason. Obviously he's a video game character, but his face just looks off especially compared to Haytham. The naval mission just made my panties wet.
  • I'm slowly changing my mind about this game. I sort of want to buy it now but I'm going to wait for a while after it releases.
  • With that last line, he's beginning to seem a lot more like Haytham's father. Good stuff.

  • Edward looks a little bit like Jax from Sons of Anarchy in the top picture.

  • Well, I also had high hopes for AC III, but, well,... no :/

This one does look nice as I did really enjoy the naval gameplay in AC III. Well, it's as much as you can expect from yearly releases, I guess.

  • Is this the line I can get in to complain about Assassin's Creed being a yearly release? I'd really like to give Ubisoft a piece of my mind. What do they think they're doing, not only making quality games, but doing it every year? Somebody has to put a stop to this. What consumer in their right mind wants to receive a quality game every year? The nerve of those guys....

  • This looked great and all, but did anyone else notice how bad the guy looked climbing the ropes to the center mast?

  • Damn, the more I see of this game the more I want to play it. This and BF4 will be glorious.

  • I've always like these games. The story telling in the third one wasn't that great, but this one is looking much better.
