Almost a year has passed since Adam Orth, a former creative director at Microsoft, left the company following a social media fallout. Orth is back on his feet with a new game to show off. Publisher 505 Games announced today that it is publishing Adr1ft, which is being developed by Orth’s studio, Three One Zero. Adr1ft places players in the suit of an isolated astronaut stranded in space.

Adr1ft is a first-person game where players explore the serene yet unsettling aftermath of a space disaster. A mysterious event has left much of the protagonist’s crew dead. Players explore the remains to find resources for survival, clues about what happened, and a way to return to Earth.

“I’m very happy to be partnering with 505 Games for Adr1ft,” Orth says in a prepared statement. “From the very beginning, Ian Howe and his team have passionately understood the game Omar [Aziz] and I are trying to make. They have empowered us with the freedom to explore and create something special with Adr1ft, both traditionally and with VR technology. It’s clear from games like Payday 2, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and some of their upcoming titles that 505 is not afraid to take chances and give gamers something fresh and new. That’s important to us. That’s what we’re all about. We’re excited to be part of that.”

Adr1ft is the result of Orth focusing his energy into doing something positive following his social media debacle. The vivid imagery of an astronaut trying to survive the deadly isolation of space is an interactive metaphor for the developer’s personal struggles over the last year.

The game is still in the very early stages of development, but Three One Zero plans to release Adr1ft on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC complete with support for the Oculus Rift VR headset.
