The lights are on
will PS4 be backwards compatible?
I am almost 90% certain that, no, it will not. I believe the newer models of PS3 aren't backwards compatible because of how "costly" it is to add that feature. The same logic will probably carry over to next-generation. With that said it is probably wise to keep your PS3, if you happen to own one.
It is looking like no. There are rumors about a proprietary streaming service for multiple systems that may EVENTUALLY make it to PS4.
The PS4 uses a brand new architecture for it's CPU. It will be using x86. The PS3 is RISC. So they wouldn't be able to execute the same code.
The PS4 will not be compatible with any previous Playstation. The PS2 was of course compatible with PS1 discs, and the first generation of PS3's were compatible with both PS1 and PS2 discs. Of course as you know the current gen of PS3's are only compatible with PS1 games (I only have about 20 or so and they all work, not sure about the 100's I don't have being compatible cause I know there has to be a title or two not compatible). But Sony has already stated that they will not be backward compatible, cmdrredd is correct.
i think so. well, i hope so. otherwise it wouldn't make any sense not to be able to play ps3 games on there.
