The lights are on
I loved the game as anyone who has visited my page would know. I loved the game, I haven't played it for atleast 3 years now. After hearing about the re-release of the game for the PS3 makes me want to dust off my good old PS2 and play the game...(I've had this PS2 since I was about 14 or so... which makes it about 6 years old at leas) I hope it hasn't died on me yet lol. But in all seriousness, it seemed like they set it up perfectly for a direct sequel.
Emon says he hopes that the boy will repent for his atrocities/ sins in what he has done here. I think that in the sequel he should grow up and find out that there are still people in the Forbidden Land, he grows up and finds out about the colossi's creation, and how they came about to be. That's just one idea, upon finding out about the dark history behind the colossi's jobs as everlasting seals to restrain Dormin, the boy after he reaches a certain age sees flashes of his dark past and saving Mono.
When he does he tries to repent for what was done and becomes the Keeper of the Shrine of Worship. Or even some thing else, I just felt that for a game that had such a moving and simplistic story the ending was kind of phoned in really. I mean... come on it basically boils down to, predictable good guy come from behind last ditch attempt success at subdoing evil, the puppet is redeemed and given a second chance, and the goal of reviving the girl was fufilled.
How cookie cutter was that. I would have loved to see an opportunity where when you were Dormir you had the opprotunity to slay Emon and his men and wreak havoc. That to me also seemed like it would be a wonderful set up for the sequel, you end the game with Dormir killing Emon, but knowing the deal that the demigod had with Mono would spare her where she would live alone on the top of the Temple and Dormir now with the only obstacles in his way vanquished could begin to wreak havoc on the continent once agin. It would be an even bigger twist because you'd be playing as the villian, which most games never even touch that point of view. I would have even loved a prequel type of follow up, where you play out the acts leading upto shadow.
We know that Wander steals the sword from Emon, and that Mono died. They never explain how, I would love to see the events of Wander finding out about the myth of Dormir, which leads him to stealing the sword. As well as of course what his relationship with Mono is that he wants to revive her other then her cursed fate. Getting a bit of Mono's story fleshed out would be equally appealing, throughout the entire game all we know is that shes a dead maiden born only to be killed. How was she killed? There are no apparent wounds on her, or blood, shes just a corpse... a bit of light shed on her circumstances would have been nice.
Honestly I belive that this game was good enough to spawn its own franchise. But that's just me, the game was so open ended that they could go a number of ways with a multitude of games for Shadow.
But this is all merely personal opinions. Feel free to let me know if iI'm just going on about nothing.. but valid points would be nice.. not mindless input.
Have you seen... techcrunch.com/.../trailer-for-new-game-from-the-makers-of-shadow-of-the-colossus
That was the trailer for The Last Guardian that they premiered many many years ago. There still hasn't been any information about it since then except that they are working on it still, its on the home page all the time if you read the updates they post.
Spoiler warning would have been nice...
Team ICO doesn't do sequels, they do spiritual sequels.
Part of the draw of their games is that they don't spell everything out for you, some things are left up to interpretation, and I wouldn't have it any other way. If you want a story with everything fleshed out maybe you should look for some SotC fan fic, or write some of your own, I would be interested in reading it.
They should make a multiplayer portion with four warriors hunting the colossus in exchange for something like how wanderer did. It could take place before Wanderers events and the ending would be a battle between the four warriors and the men tracking down Wanderer from the first game. They would be defeated before they killed the last colossus. I don't have a ps3, but i had SOTC on ps2 and i loved it. It would kill me to not see Wanderer on All Stars, he could do a young link and link thing with ICO, or Marth and Roy from Super Smash Bros. PLEASE REPLY.
Haven't played it. But will prob get it for the ps2 not 3 because don't want to pay 30 some dollars where i can play it for like 10.
But my idea is for a sequel will include making your own colossus. Imagine how many people would come up with awesome colossi. You could share with people and battle them. or put them in a open world thing and find them. lots of ways to make it cool.
I like to think of Ico as a sequel in the long-distant future. What makes Shadow of the Colossus so amazing, though, is its simplicity in story. There's a lot of room for interpretation.
Another sequel in spirit would be Journey for the PS3. It has the open world, visual-based story telling, and sheer-epicness. Check it out if you haven't played it.
actually, team ICO had tried that, but found out that it would be difficult for the players. I got the game for the ps3 and it came with bonus content like documentaries that talked about SOTC.
I think Team ICO did a very good job with the rerelease. Shadow never looked this good!
No, I have not I will have to look it up now that you've brought it to my attention.
I didn't really give away any spoilers....
I see that now
I was actually thinking of posting some fanfic of it here. If I do it would be in my blog posts, if your interested be looking for it.
That or they could come up with it like a downloadable game for the PSN, I think that it would be an interesting idea. A brawler like idea would be nice, create a colossi and pit it against other original creations. It would take a lot of work to really come up with a definitively fully designable and custom colossi but I would kill to see how it would turn out.
I haven't played it but it's because I lack a PS3, I wish I could I saw reviews and screenshots from Journey and I think that it's breathtaking.
Is it? I haven't seen it yet sadly. If and when I get a PS3 It'll be me buying the re-release and then Toriko if its out by then.
