If you had a PS2 for a long time and disks don't read well take off the outer plastic shell, (for the old PS2), or just open the disk drive door (the new PS2) and blow it out with an air compressor, but be careful not to damage anything. It will blow the dust off the reading lends.
Don't leave the console on while not playing. My friends broke three consoles because they were too lazy to flip the switch in the back. They were like, "PS2 sucks man. I had to buy three systems." Stupid.

Yep, mine has never broken either. It only stopped working one time, and that's because it got full of dog hair somehow... haha, I don't know how. It was pretty gross, too.
