Thanks : )
So I've read through a bunch of forums tonight but I am unwilling to accept my fate. I'm getting the green to yellow to flashing red light sequence. Is my PS3 really unsalvageable? It's an awesome 60 gig with backwards compatibility so I really don't want to go out and buy a newer version of the system (or pay $150 for Sony to send me a refurbished one). Has anybody found out a way to save the system after the "Yellow light of death?"
Basically, what you just said there; talk to Sony and get another one. It's a shame that you lost your 60 gig version. Sorry, man . . . DX
That sucks man. Yeah, you're pretty much going to have to get a refurbished one from Sony, and I'm not certain on whether or not you'd get a 60GB one back (I'm guessing no since they're not in production anymore).
Yeah, it's pretty much a loss. Same thing happened to my friend, and they sent him the new model.

This just happened to me not 5 minutes ago with my launch system. It can still boot up for short intervals, enough to copy my data to a back-up drive, but I'm pissed regardless. I want to keep my four USB ports and BC. >:(
This company is actually located in the town I live in. Its a little bit cheaper than having Sony repair it. Maybe you could give it a shot. Website is below:

Hey, nice new site. Recently, my PS3 stopped reading any type of PS3/PS2 disc. Sony currently is saying I should pay $150+ to fix this, and I was wondering if you know anything different. I've started/added to posts around the web where other people are having similar problems ever since the 3.00 update.
The reason I'm so hesistant to just pay Sony is not jsut the money, but:
I haven't been USING my physical disk drive for about the past month!
See, I don't have a stable internet connection here at campus, so I can't really play Team Fortress 2 or Street Fighter IV. I've played SFIV maybe ONCE in the last month, mostly been playing MVC2, a DLC game(Which does NOT use the physical disk drive). So how exactly did my hard disk drive break? I honestly think it has something to do with the update, even if the drive is broken.

I still have my launch PS3. I play it everyday. I'm hoping the yellow light of death is not a common thing among launch systems.
Come here to discuss and seek help for any issues with your PS3.
UPDATE: Man sues Sony over this issue. I don't just see why Sony won't acknowledge this and have a "grace" period for those of us who's PS3s broke.

A friend of mine is currently having an issue with his PS3. I haven't been able to see the way it's acting personally, but here's the basic gist of the issue as he told me.
When he turns the system power on, the system goes to a red light. When he presses the reset button, it goes to a blue/green light. But there's no video or audio. The A/V cables and the power cables (obviously) are both attached, and this has been tested both on different TVs and with different A/V cables. Every time, the TV acts as though nothing is connected to it. He's tried fiddling with the wires connected to the PS3, and it hasn't done anything.
So basically, it seems like something is fried inside the PS3, somehow. Is this a common issue with PS3s, or is there some hidden switch or something that he's forgetting about? Let me know if anyone else has encountered anything like this.
I'm a girl.
Man who is sueing for this got on G4's blog, not sure if we got on AOTS(The Feed)/X-Play: g4tv.com/.../Man-Files-Class-Action-S

I don't have that specific problem, but I'd suggest you check out the links I've provided. My particular problem issue is with disk drives not working/3.00/3.01 update
Best of luck to you, though(It sounds like an overheating problem, hopefully you are still in warranty, or at least don't have to pay $150+)
Thanks mod, that does seem like a good idea for the direction of this thread.
ANYWAY, UPDATE:
**UPDATE**
There is a "secret reset" in this youtube video:

Some of you may want to try it. Personally, it did not work for me.
Trying to keep the other threads around the net alive!
GOOD News: With the man's lawsuit in place, it seems like the BBB is speeding up our complaints against Sony(boardsus.playstation.com/play...125723, and allowing free repairs)
Personally, I'll be calling Sony's customer Service tomorrow. Wish me luck! I'd rather spend that money on DJ Hero Renegade edition than a repair, IMO
Found this while randomly searching the net: playstation.joystiq.com/.../bricked-by-firmware-2-40-scea-will-fix-your-ps3-for-free
If it's happened before(BOTH the Updates BREAKING PS3s, and FREE repairs), I'd say it can happen again.
Best of luck to you guys.
