The lights are on
I have never really played an RPG. I have always played about every other genre but for some reason never gotten into them. I have been really wanting to branch out and get into RPG's but I dont know where to start. It seems to me that there are various types of them.... Fallout seems to be a FPS/RPG, as well as Borderlands. Games like Elder Scrolls seem to me to be the traditional style of RPG. So here is the famous question... For someone who has never played RPG's; where should I start? What is a good game to get me started?
Wanting to get into RPG's. Always played about every other genre but for some reason never got into them. I am wanting to branch out and see what the RPG water is like. From what I gather, there are diggerent types: FPS/RPG's like Fallout and Borderlands and the more "traditonal" type such as Elder Scrolls. What are your suggestions for someone who wants to get into RPG's?
Even though you have little to go one based on the thread, I can safely recommend Uncharted 1 and 2, Mass Effect 2 (go pre-order it), and Killzone 2
Mass Effect 2 is a RPG set in space , with a very deep and rich story . The Uncharted series and Killzone 2 are more FPS than RPG , if you could even consider them to be RPG's .
Borderlands and the Fallout series are as you pointed out , FPS/RPG hybrids , with Fallout having more RPG depth ( character customization ) than Borderlands does . Borderlands can be played solo , but is more fun when played online with friends , it is the only " RPG " that has multiplayer .Both are set in post-apocalyptic worlds .
Elder Scrolls : Oblivion , is a more traditional RPG in that the setting features mythical creatures , swords , and magic . With setting really being the only difference between them , I would recommend Fallout 3 ( it's cheaper than New Vegas and just as fun ) , Mass Effect 2 , or Elder Scrolls : Oblivion .
All 3 feature different difficulty settings , and customizable upgrade paths / characters , so it really comes down to type of world you want to spend potentially hundreds of hours in .
Personally I have spent 300 - 600 hours in each of those games , with the Fallout series getting the slight edge , followed by Mass Effect 2 . Oblivion was a great game , but to me it didn't draw me in the way that Elder Scrolls Morrowind did ( for the original xbox , I easily played that one over 1000 hours ) .
Hope that helps ya .
Are you referring to Batman Asylum for the PS3? Also, I am wondering if the 3D version of the Batman Arkham Asylum plays well on VIZIO.
Definitely Uncharted 3, I already pre-ordered it at Gamestop.
Are there any good hockey games out there. I would like to play another genre as well.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. If you are a fan of RPG's you have to get this game.. It is a requirement. Best game ever to me.
<Insert catchy remark here>
All of the Metal Gear Solid games played in order of release.
See you in 100 years.
I didn't know you could pre-order it yet! I'm going to Gamestop!
final fantasy 7, 9, metal gear solid, parasite eve, silent hill, dino crisis, mega man 8, x4, tomb raider & resident evil.
I think you should try the elder scroll series!
I suggest Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro for the PSone. It was one the first Spider-Man games I've played and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Kingdom Hearts 2, Resistance 2, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Jak 3, Batman: Arkham Asylm, and Silent Hill 2 are just some of the best games on the PS2 and PS3.
