The lights are on
Okay, So this Christmas I bought a 250GB PS3. First I want to note that I did not get a 2nd controller, I did not recieve a HDMI cable, no games, no movie, no accesories and nothing else but AV cables and power cord. So what exactly did I pay for? Sony is a huge rip-off! Secondly it even isn't backwards compatible! Like what the hell is going on? And that's why I came to ask do you guys know anything about what they are planning to do? Because this is ridiculous!
exactly. espically having to pay 100 for a wireless receiver
Everybody dance now
It's called a PS2 EMULATOR!! Sony announced this in Novemeber! Srry you have to wait until summer time
exactly. thank you finally someone else post it.

To repurchase your games if you don't have a BC system.
Nub: Demon Ragnarok: Right because 360 doesn't come with a headset, HDMI cable, wireless controller and 2 games. It doesn't have Wi-Fi out of the box. My latest 360 (not the first one, thank you very much E74 failure) didn't come with an HDMI cable or the 2 games. And I got mine last November. Microsoft is just as guilty of cost-cutting procedures.

Ok, so they dropped the HDMI cable. Combined cost of both games is $120. Therefore you are getting the system itself minus HDMI cables for $180. So $300 vs $180. As long as you don't mind being wired up, I think I like the 360 deal more.
Not to mention that 360 games are cheaper by comparison to similar PS3 games released at similar times.

...? The system still cost me $300 when I bought it (technically, I paid nothing because I had Best Buy's Replacement Plan, but it was valued at that). I saved no money. And your game cost comparison doesn't make sense, it's comparing two different games. If the same game is offered on two systems, it's almost always marked down at the same time. For example: Assassin's Creed II, clearly a bigger seller on 360, just got marked down to $30 on BOTH systems.
Got it, bro?
@ Demon
The emulator will let you put in your ps2 dics 2 jeez check the GI archives for the article
@Nub
360 is the worse deal most the accesssories you are buying for it are built into the ps3. Once u buy the system you don't have to buy anything else for it accept a controller and hdmi cable. Plus the system has a high failure rate that microsoft still needs to fix. We are fixing our 360 and selling it on ebay since brian just plays online shooters and likes them more on PS3
If you're going to play that game, how much does a stand alone bluray player cost these days? More than $120 I'm pretty sure. And the 360 needs an $80-100 wifi adapter to play wirelessly (if I did get a 360 I would HAVE to get one of those to play online).
Then Xbox Live is $50 per year on top of it. You can say how much better Live is than the PSN all you want but at the end of the day you pay for Live while PS3 owners don't pay a dime for PSN. What's the better value now?
To go with dbull, even if the service is 'better' with XBLA, you're paying, in essence for the service and not really the online content given that you can play MW2 online on both systems, netflix is on both systems and performs the same, sure you dont get last FM, but that's not as popular of a thing as some believe, and I just stream my itunes downloads via windows 7 media server to the ps3 no problem (and it's as simple as turning on sharing on my PC and telling the PS3 to find a media server via network). What exactly can someone 'do' on XBLA? nothing. They just got some form of arcade things going, and even then, there's some kind of cost structure with it. Immediate basic set up the 360 is cheaper, but to get the full experience it's more expensive than a PS3, with less exclusive titles, exclusive titles that are rated slightly lower and the exclusives are more or less fairly generic in terms of the game itself.
Like 360? great, good for those people - whatever works for them. But in the area of technicalities, no matter how you want to look at it, at some point it's time to admit that the PS3 make better monetary sense.
CAUTION: Shawn's blog increases the risk of intelligence.
wait all next gen games are the same price. i work at gamestop so i should know....heh in fact i know a lot since i started wor.........ahem anyway yea there the same and yes as dbull said ps3 you dont have to pay to play any.
can someone explain for me this PS2 emulator? Cause I wanted to play all the old kingdom hearts games and the chain of memories remake... but I kinda can't at the moment.
@ DarkLadySarai
Right now, there is no emulator for playing PS2 games on PS3's released beyond the end of 2008.
At the moment, it's only under speculation and rumor that it's going to be released in the summer. It's NOT confirmed by Sony at the moment.

Ok... that makes sense, cause I hadn't heard anything, and I didn't want to get excited over nothing.

I was using exclusives as an example and those 2 are very similar and came out in the same month. Check prices on PS3 exclusives sometime. Infamous is the only exclusive in the last year and a half that is less than original $60 (it is $40).
Second, I was stripping down the price of the games that came off the 360 to show that without the games figured in it would be 180, but you get 2 games to start out with. Sony on the other hand does not release a game with the system. Therefore you must spend extra money on top of the $300 just to play it first day.

You're going to have to find that article, because I'll I have ever seen was that they plan to release digital versions of the game on PSN (which means repurchasing). As the saying goes; If you don't have a link, it didn't happen.
As far as accessories go lets look at controllers. 360 vs PS3. It would appear they are the same price. However when the battery dies withing the controller, because rechargable batteries don't last forever, the PS3 requires buying a new controller where as the 360 requires a purchase of a battery pack and save yourself $45. How about mics. I am going to go by First Part items here. PS3 vs 360. Granted this is not direct comparison as the Microsoft headset is wired. The 360 wireless headset is more expensive. But it comes down to necessity vs luxury in that case. What other accessories would you be referring to?

Supposedly (admittedly I can't find a link for proof with this one) a November 2009 survey by Home Media Magazine found that between 33 and 50 percent of Americans have at least one HDTV in their home. Therefore Blu-ray is a luxury item placed in the system. Great if you have a 1080p television, overrated if you don't.
You got me for the Wi-fi. I don't need it personally, I have a 20 meter cat-5 running along the base of my walls from my bedroom into the living room, but for some this may not be possible.
Furthermore, last week they did an article about Sony doing a blog to find out what features people would like to see added to the PSN. If you look at this blog you will find that 7 out of the top ten things people want to see on PSN are things that 360 and Live do. Plus you have games like 1 vs 100, where you can play a game with thousands of people and win Microsoft points, or win an arcade game. Additionally they also post some strategy guides, highlight gamers once a week and just all around have a better, more community based service. For that I don't mind paying $50 ($4.17 per month). For some it may not be their cup of tea.
For me personally, the price of the exclusives and the decisions made in regards to the controller have been the biggest letdowns with the system. I had my 360 before my PS3 and so I like being able to just switch out rechargeable battery packs rather than be tied down to the system with a wire.

Although I'm not disagreeing with you completely, you're actually wrong there. If you take the time to read the PS3's handbook, it gives you official instructions on opening up the back of the controller. It's batteries are inexpensive, too, if you buy them from the right places.
The instructions were in my PS3 handbook from the end of 2008.
Alright, I'll have to try and track down that handbook then.
In case if I don't find it, could you tell me what type of battery it is (I've moved 3 times since I purchased the system and honestly have no idea where the handbook is).
