theGamr: I know why. It's SUPER obvious. The 360 is 100's of dollars cheaper!!! So, we 360 owners have that money to spend on 360 exlusives.

Really? Last I checked the 120 GB PS3 slim model and the Xbox 360 elite are selling at the same price. Or are you referring to the Arcade model that doesn't have a hard drive and won't get you very far with a little 256 MB (or is it 514 MB?) memory card , forcing you to drop cash for one of Microsoft's overpriced hard drives?
Sorry, that logic doesn't apply to this situation anymore. It did for a long time, but now that the playing field is more level I think we'll start seeing quality exclusive PS3 titles selling better in the next year or two.
At any rate, this is starting to turn into another console war thread. Keep it on topic and keep the conversation civil, otherwise this thread will be locked down.
Mostly I think we haven't seen the sales a lot of these games deserve because Sony's only recently added a couple million more users to the Playstation Network. Most of the great games that came out were new IPs, or they were part of a series that came out on the PS3. Give it time and eventually you'll see some better numbers.
360 was out sooner, so there are more games for it..... Microsoft has been known to pay big money for crap exclusives( Section 8, anyone?)... Sony is much better about taking risks with their games( Heavy Rain), which is something Microsoft doesnt do very often. Any one of these( or all, more than likely) are contributing factors
@tolhurst: your logic is fallacious: namely it has an internal contradiction: if MS doesn't take chances, it wouldn't have hits like ME nor misses like Section 8; furthermore, it's selective of you to mention Heavy Rain (which is unproven as of this point at any rate, a better choice would be UC/UC2) and not mention Lair. Also the "360 was out sooner, so there are more games for it" is a non sequitur to the rest of your argument, and in fact is a bad subclaim to support an argument for why 360 exclusives move more units than PS3 ones, as more games on 360 should mean that sales are more spread out, and not that 360 exclusives would outsell PS3 ones (of which there were fewer, at least at one time).
Really the only first party publisher I don't see taking chances is Ninty (aside from the whole Wii motion control fiasco).
So far, the best argument for why PS3 exclusives don't move greater #s is Jacen's: many people who bought a PS3, particularly a year or so ago, probably bought it at least as much for the BluRay capability as for the games, if not more so. This reason is both grounded in some pretty solid logic, and lacks the subjective fanboy elements prevailing in so many of the Sony fans' arguments.
The question put forth by this thread is why do PS3 exclusives not sell better: how that seems, for so many to relate back to some major failing of the 360/MS/360 owners makes no logical sense at all. "360 sucks, MS sucks!" is not an answer to a question about sales on a Sony console.
nevaR!

That isn't the worst exclusive the 360 has.

So, both systems have some absolute crap for exclusives. Now lets look at some from the other end of the spectrum.
For 360:

Metacritic rating for Demon's Soul: 89
Metacritic rating for Killzone 2: 91
So that said, the systems really are about even when it comes to quality of product they put out. Microsoft has higher number of crap games, but with production costs being what they are, I wonder how much the Blu-ray aspect would lead to the number of lower quality games.
Realize I tried to look up every exclusive I could think of and I probably left a few out, but this is as complete a list as I was willing to go through and make. I think that this proves that quality of product has nothing to do with the difference in sales numbers.
At the risk of re-railing the topic, I WISH the Wii had this problem. Because in all honesty I think the real title of this thread should be "Why don't PS3 fans buy PS3 exclusives the way Nintendo fans do?" Because that's ALL Nintendo fans buy!

They buy the hell out of first party exclusives, not third party. Biggest problem is the shovelware for the Wii. With all the crap that saturates the Wii market, a lot of third party games don't get a fair crack.
The Xbox 360 is ahead in console sales worldwide by 5.88 million as of January 30, 2010 according to vgchartz.com. The PS3 was behind 7 million before the Slim and price drop, so I believe that the lack of support comes from the new owners.
Xbox 360 has more gamers. The PS3 just became affordable and more Xboxers are picking up PS3s. I did.
@mnk222 I agree with your reply. I mean I just got my PS3 Slim not even a week ago and the system has been out for how long? Trust me if I could have afforded the damned thing when it first came out I would have some of the exclusives.

Glad someone brought that up. I think things will make more since when you break things down further.
US: 21.76 million 360s to 12.71 million PS3s (9.05 million in 360's favor)
Japan: 1.25 million 360s to 4.77 million PS3s (3.52 million in PS3's favor)
Others: 14.63 million 360s to 14.31 PS3s (320,000 in 360's favor)
Now, obviously there's a huge lean towards 360s in the US and a huge lean towards PS3s in Japan, but everywhere else it's about equal. Now, if I may once again bring up the argument about many of the exclusive titles on the 360 and PS3 being targeted towards western (i.e. American) audiences, then shouldn't it be obvious just by looking at the numbers (approximately 1.71 Xbox 360s sold to every PS3 sold) that the 360's exclusive titles are going to outsell the PS3's exclusives?
Let's use the example Demon Ragnarok brought up earlier, with 1.8 million copies of Left 4 Dead 2 to 1.3 million copies of Uncharted 2 sold. We're looking at a ratio of 1.38 copies of L4D2 sold for ever copy of Uncharted 2 sold. Considering that both games target western audiences, and considering the praise that Uncharted 2 received, is that ratio so surprising when you keep in mind the 1.71 : 1 360 to PS3 ratio in the US? I think not.

Touche. But I also brought up Gears 2 and Resistance 2. Both games that were released at the same time. Gears 2 is now selling for 29.99 and Resistance 2 is still selling for 59.99. Gears 2 has sold 5.55 million to Resistance 1.82 million. That is over a 3:1 ratio and Sony is still charging full price for a game that is over a year old. You would think by now Sony would be intelligent enough to lower the price. But someone in marketing has their head up their ass.
Ah, touche to you as well, you got me there. Actually, that's made me realize something: there was a ton of commercial and gamer hype behind Gears of War 2 (due in no small part to the success of the first title) but there wasn't really much talk about Resistance 2 amongst other gamers or in commercials.
I tip my hat to Microsoft on that one, they actually heavily advertise their exclusive titles and get everyone pumped for them. Sony could learn something from that.
Congrats on reaching Silver rank by the way.
Thank you. I also would like everyone to remember that I own all 3 systems, so I'm not trying to be a jerk in this thread. Granted 360 is my main system, but I do appreciate the exclusives for PS3. I just don't like seeing great games like Disgaea 3 get absolutely no publicity. Personally, I think the marketing is the biggest problem. Sony has pushed the marketing for Uncharted 2 and sales are now surpassing Left 4 Dead 2 worldwide. But I don't see them pushing any of their other games. In fact I would say their persistence in charging full price for many of these exclusives is choking the life out of the games.
Anyone else feel the same?
Personally I can't say I normally wait long enough to care that Resistance 2 is still $60, but ***...I swear I beat that forever ago. It would definitely raise the sales numbers considerably to go down to $30 though. On a personal level, the pricing stuff like that doesn't bother me. If I really wanted to still play Resistance 2, I would still buy it, but I know most people don't work that way.
Now about the exclusives not selling as well, I believe that the Blu Ray player point is valid...I game plenty, but I would say I easily spend just as many hours a week watching Blu Rays and I could easily see where people bought one mostly just to watch them. Hell, my uncle just bought one on Saturday and 95% of his usage will be for Blus.
