The lights are on
3 words...Space Combat Sim...I recently got the urge to revisit one of my favorite genres only to find (so it seems) that there hasn'tbeen a decent one made since the late 90's! So I ordered one of my old favs (Independence War) only to find it won't work on VISTA at all. I tried a few demos of newer games but for the most part they seem to put into the "cockpit" of a "starship" that you never see. I realize ID War is kind of dated but I loved virtually every aspect of it.
Games like Homeworld and Nexus are ok but I what I really want is something that puts me on a bridge and lets me manage every aspect of the ship(preferably from the different stations I.E. Engineering, Tactical, Navigation, Ect). Economy is ok but I think I like being given a mission and story line more. Any suggestions?
Also, is there any other Genres out there that have fallen by the wayside?
Have you tried Sins of a Solar Empire or maybe if you are looking for an MMO, EVE?
Well if you're a 360 guy, you may want to check out Project Sylpheed. It hasn't gotten great ratings and it's probably not as in-depth as you'd like it to be. But its probably the closest you'll get to a space combat sim on consoles.
Sins looks nice but not what I'm going for. I liked Eve but don't have time or patience enough to fend off the twelve year olds camping the low sec gates.
Project Sylpheed looks nice but the neg reviews are pretty heavy.
What about that one where they fly and stuff ]
