Yeah, but there's a huge difference between WoW and the new games that are out such as Battlefield 3. First of all, WoW is running on an engine from 2004, so basically any modern laptop can run it without any problems. Second, it's an MMO, meaning it already has low specs so it can bring in a wider range of players that don't have "gaming computers".

Not every game can be like WoW or else games would never progress anywhere. Battlefield 3 and Witcher 2 wouldn't look so good, if they were also using an engine from 2004. And WoW also has to cut down on a lot of stuff to make it low-spec.

But to answer the question, no PC gaming is not dying, nor will it die for a very long time or even at all. If you don't believe me, go ask Valve who are rolling around in cash from the PC market.

Re: The End of PC Gaming?

I don't think PC Gaming will end anytime soon, but I do feel as if company's should ask themselves "What would a PC Gamer want as well?" Not just focusing on the Console side of their games. Some free to play games would make perfect sense since some people cannot afford to pay subscription fees and the way the company could still make a good profit is releasing DLCs at a reasonable price so they aren't losing as much money. Once probably I do find with PC Gaming though that could damage it if the economy keeps getting worst is having to buy upgrades for computers to play the latest games. It would be nice to see a feature like WoW that if your computer is extremely out of date or somewhat out of date you can still play the game just really low settings. People will still strive to getting the best product they can for the best game play experience so the company once again isn't really losing profit.

But overall I doubt that PC Gaming will die out, but there is a few things that can be done to keep it some what alive and have more people interested in it. Just imagine how many people would play more games if a somewhat out of date computer could still play the game, or they didn't have to pay those annoying monthly fees. (This is just my outlook on this I suppose some of it is totally out of subject but yeah..)

Re: The End of PC Gaming?

@The Eggman

Thanks for putting me onto Steam - had never heard of it. I'm pro PC - my reference about DAO was that the graphics were far superior on the PC than the 360. I know a lot of consoles can put out high graphics games, but the consoles really failed with that game in particular.

I'm mainly into RPGs and MMOs so PC is the only way to go as far as I'm concerned. Besides, I'd miss my old favorites like KOTOR and the Jedi Knight series. :)

Re: The End of PC Gaming?

i think it well all be fine

Re: The End of PC Gaming?

*high fives* I do still buy retail PC games :P

On topic, PC gaming isn't dead and I doubt it will ever be. It has a huge and passionate community, as Specter said, and PC gaming still sells very well so there's no logical reason for it to end.

Re: The End of PC Gaming?

@woolychaser

do you know what steam is? more games are released on pc than consoles, they are just not sold in gamestop because not many pc gamers buy retail versions of anything except special editions. And about DAO not only was there a huge graphics overhaul, they gameplay was actually playable (and good) on pc.

Anyway PC gamers (like myself) are so passionate about pcs that you could not kill PC gaming if you tried.

Re: The End of PC Gaming?

I think PC gaming will be around for as long as there is enough demand for it to justify the cost to produce games for it. There is definitely a difference (look at Dragon Age Origins on the PC and then on the 360 - huge difference graphically).

I agree that it does SEEM like there aren't a whole lot of PC games being released. Walk into almost any GameStop and you see large wall sections devoted to console games. Where are the PC games? On half of a small floor rack.

Re: The End of PC Gaming?

I think PC gaming is doing fine

Re: The End of PC Gaming?

PC gaming will never die out. World War III is one of the best games I've played this year -

but beware, because the game is pretty complex and hard to beat.
I think you can get it at Steam or at www.theplaychannel.com, whichever is cheaper. It's kinda
hard to describe because its based on such a silly idea...

Both those games are run by Activision, so that pretty much sums it up. The only thing Blizz is doing with Starcraft II is allowing the modding community to put a price on the work they've created, which, if it doesn't get out of hand, I have absolutely no problem with.

Also, I think it's safe to assume that the PC market is truly a world market. With Europe and Asia having huge PC followings. Look at the top WoW guilds in the world; dominated by EU/Asia. They take that stuff seriously. Not to mention some of the best PC developers are in Europe (Crytek/CDProjekt).

Remember, PC's do certain things better than consoles and vice versa. As long as the developers try not to emulate the console way of gaming too much, everything should be fine.

Re: The End of PC Gaming?

Never give up hope PC gameing is stronger than ever.

Re: The End of PC Gaming?

@ Bug

That's like saying all there is to the Xbox 360 is Halo and a bunch of kid's, that isn't true. Also they obviously have to charge money for extra maps and extra add-ons, it isn't cost free to make such things and they have to keep making money some how to keep on there game franchise.
