The lights are on
Interesting article here : http://techgage.com/article/nvidia_talks_pc_gaming_trends/
If the current trend continues, PC game sales are looking to pass console sales in 2014. Mostly due to digital sales. 2011 is predicted to go 15billion digital and only 2.5billion in actual box sales.
Another interesting point the article makes is about the console vs PC in terms of hardware performance. In 2005 when the current generation consoles were released top end PC's were around 40% more power the console (According to NVIDIA), its been 6 years, and console hardware hasn't changed where the top end PCs are now pushing 10x console.
With battlefield 3 now in beta, it will be interesting to see exactly how much of a differance will be between the two games. The game already requires a monster gig to run the thing on max settings. DICE community manager Daniel Matros said via twitter that we'll need two 580s in SLI to make the most of the Frostbite 2 engine.
tl:dr : Long live PC gaming!
Yeah I had already read that a week ago or so (I think it was also posted on GI but I read it somewhere else first). Anyways, I think it's always a good time to be a PC gamer :)
Of course Nvidia will always say that, since they make and sell PC components but I believe their claims. I also have no doubt a good PC nowadays has 10x the power of a console, of course games don't look 10x better but that's not due to the hardware <_<

Yep, I switched to PC gaming earlier this year, and I could never have been happier. Steam sales, and all my games on the same place where I can work, it's like heaven.
I'd have no problem making a slow start to switching to PC gaming. In fact, I bought the Valve Complete Pack on Steam for $50 when it was on sale.
My computer not having that good of a graphics card, I could really only play Half Life, the first Portal, Counter Strike and other older games. Games like Left for Dead, Left for Dead 2, Portal 2 and others I couldn't play because my graphics card can't support the newer games.
I don't really have $75-$125 to spend on a new graphics card and not whatever it costs to get a higher Power Supply. So for me, it's going to take a while ;P
Welcome aboard buddy. You made the right choice :)
Keep an eye out on sites such as:
newegg.com
tigerdirect.com
just to name a few. They have daily and weekly sales. You might find the card you are looking for 50% off on one of them. Just figured i'd give you the tip incase you didn't know.
I agree with the OP. I cannot think of one reason a console is better then a PC. There are a couple exclusives to the console world, but honestly i'll take PC exclusives such as MMOs, bizzard games etc. over them any day. Anyone looking to get into the PC gaming scene, do not let prices keep you away. Computers are cheaper today then they ever were and you can probably find a more than decent PC for alot less then you expected to pay.
Thank you :D
I agree, great time for PC gaming. The Steam platform is awesome, but don't forget about all the high quality F2P games out there now too. LOTRO, Champions Online, Age of Conan.....the list goes on!
Interesting
it's always a good time to be a PC gamer
PC is the backbone of Gaming H/W even though it has lost popularity due to piracy and consoles but i still love pc gaming its a true n good experience to play a game on PC.
Dedicated to PC for life :)
Did I read that right: two 580s running in sli to max out BF3? Sheesh. I wonder if thats required to run 3 monitors in 3D. Anyway, I am in the process of building my first gaming rig and i feel like a 9 year old with divorced parents trying to compete with each other on Christmas morning.
Yeah man, PC gaming is where its at. I feel like it is the Swiss Army Knife of the tech/gaming world because most games find their way to PC and I feel like MMO's are a unique experience exclusively given to PC gamers. Also, not many other forms of gaming give you the variety of controllers and accessories than the PC. If nothing else, 2012 has some super promising titles that are worth looking at. (GW2 FTW!)
I am now typing this comment on my new gaming rig I just built in order to play The Witcher 2 and the real version of BF3. So far, The Witcher 2 is way better than any 360 game I've played and BF3 is 34% downloaded. To be continued....
