The lights are on
I want to build a decent gaming PC...nothing like to run Crysis on Max Quality but to play games like Starcraft, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Sims 3 with no lag. Also I may be using 3d Game engines.
So yes the specs,
PSU:http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=AGS620 "This looks kinda "fishy" cheap to me...do you think its legit?"
Mother Board: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=P4M890-M7-TE-R
So yeah, do you think thats good? Upgrate something? Downgrate something?
It all came to a $292 total.
What operating system are you going to use?
Windows XP doesn't require as much RAM, whereas Vista and 7 require much more.
For my computer, it runs Sims 3 with slight lag (at the lowest graphical settings) with the following specs:
- OS: Windows 7 Home Premium x64
- Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.10GHz 2.10GHz
- 4GB RAM
- Integrated Graphics Card with 32MB minimum graphics memory and 1695MB maximum graphics memory
Yeah I am going to be using WXP forgot to mention that.
Is AMD Athlon X2 Duo a good alternative?
For a dual core CPU, I would recommend 1.8GHz at minimum. For me personally, I think the only problem with my computer is the video card. If you can get a decent video card, you should be able to run the game with no problems (at the lowest graphics setting).
Your other games sound fairly old, so they should do absolutely fine.
Haha yea I guess Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 and Starcraft are considered old now.
You should be good with that setup. May want to get a faster processor. For Dual Core you really want to be in the 2.4 - 2.8 Ghz range.
I can certainly see you are trying to go the cheap route. As previously mentioned, you really should go with a dual core, if you can afford it. You would be better off going for a cheaper graphics card to increase your CPU budget; you would be bottlenecked by the CPU, making that Graphics card overkill, and pretty useless.
Also, that RAM is out of stock, so you could probably just get a 1GB stick for now, giving yourself more money for the CPU. You can always upgrade the RAM later and you only want to run WXP, so you only need 1 GB.
A down side to getting a dual core is that a DC MB will cost a little more. It is well worth it though.
I dont know if you are still making the decision on what parts to buy for you pc but here is a list of parts for what you wanted to pay. This should make a pretty good gaming pc.

I noticed you didnt have a operating system listed. depending on what you want it could be $100-$200.
I recommend windows 7 and a ram upgrade to 4gb sometime in the next year.
................should be able to play far cry 2(not on max settings, maybe medium) with this.
