The lights are on
Seriously. Metroid Prime Trilogy, Pikmin, Heartgold, SoulSilver, The endless myriad of DS remakes, etc.
Back from 99'-05' I bought a new N64/GC game almost every 2 months. Now, as it stands, I haven't bought a single game for the Wii in almost a year, and have no prospects in the near future either. Nintendo is a veritable thrift store of the gaming industry.
Secondly, the new "demo" feature. The reason I see this as a problem is because it will spawn severe and flagrant inconsistencies in a game's difficulty/challenge factor. The demo feature, for those of you who don't know, is a feature in which a person can opt for the game to play itself through difficult parts so that they don't get stuck.
Let's recapitulate as to why this is profoundly retarded:
1) To get stuck on a Wii game, you'd have to be a 3-year-old.
2) The inconsistency with the difficulty lies in the fact that if one is given the option to skip a point in the game, they'd skip it to continue to an easy point that was "manageable" for them. This means there'd be a constant flux of easy and difficult areas. If they kept most parts easy, hardcores'd get bored. If too many parts were difficult, those incapable would drop the game and let it play itself the entire way through.
3) Half the fun of a game is conquering a seemingly insurmountable challenge. If a difficult area presents itself, many people will be tempted, in their frustration to just skip it without trying to get past it.
So yeah. Nintendo's idea of "good ideas" is pretty antipodal to what they really are.
"Demo" has already been outlawed in my household. Cheat codes are acceptable in certain situations - always have been - and web-based player's guides are also permissable. But allowing a game to play itself while you watch crosses the line, and transforms interactive passtime into mere television. I refuse to pay for television.
Amen to that, brother.
Yeah, I personally don't see the new demo thing as much of an accomplishment for Nintendo. I think it's kind of pointless.
Also, that is true! Nintendo hasn't produced a hard game in a LONG time. Their hardest game is probably Twilight Princess.
That is kind of sad, Sony and Microsoft have many, many hard games, but Nintendo is limited.
I think their next tough game will be Metroid the Other M, and that won't come out till quite some. Maybe a Silent Hill game or infinite Space will at least be somewhat difficult. :/
The Fire Emblem and Legend of Zelda franchises were the only reason i bought a Wii. I mean the multi-player games like Mario Party, Smash Bros, Mario Kart are fun but they do nothing when you're home alone or its 3AM and everyone's asleep.
After I beat both Fire Emblem and Zelda numerous times and saw no good Wii solo player games on the horizon, I sold my system and bought a PlayStation 3. At least the PlayStation has some good solo games that I can play for hours without depending on other people to be available and interested in the same game.
Nintendo sucks.

If you can't find good, challenging games on the Wii then your not looking hard enough. All games in general are getting too easy, even the so-called hard core games. Take Bioshock and GTA for example. In Bioshock you never "die", you just get thrown back a short ways. Not to mention most "hard core" 360 gamers care more about easy achievments than a challenging game.
With the high cost of game development now a days these "hard core" games are being designed to be played to completion. Look at Rock Bands "No Fail" mode. Sony and Microsoft sure as heck do NOT have many, many "hard" games.
Instead of only looking at Nintendo to make hard and challenging titles for the Wii why not look at third pary developers instead?

I haven't bought a Wii game in a very long time either. The "demo" mode I don't really care about, because I won't be using it. I think more than come out with "new, innovative features", Nintendo needs to focus on some serious quality games.
This battle......will be EPIC!
I'm hoping for a Final Fantasy VI-IX remake.
Amen. You need to play Demon's Souls
Metroid: Other M looks like a worthy challenge.
And that's what she said.
