The lights are on
Please excuse me if I posted this in the wrong place. I'm looking for a good NES clone. I wouldn't play anything but NES games on it. By "best", I mean reliable.
To be honest, the NES clones really aren't that reliable. Every time I've bought one, the games look grainier then normal, and the sound is off. Plus, some of the bigger games don't work on all of them. like Mega Man 2. If I were you, I'd eat the extra cost and buy a top-loading NES. The top-loader is much more reliable than the standard NES and miraculously, it will still play a game if you breathe near it, unlike the OG NES. However, this is the more expensive route unfortunately. If you're strapped for cash, I'd buy a standard NES and just replace the 72-pin connector in it. Even if you're not very tech savy, it's a very easy thing to do and there are a plethora of guides on the internet to do so.
What's the picture like on the top-loading NES? I've heard people complain about lines in the picture.
Why a NES clone?
I've tried several front-loader NES consoles. The first had a new 72-pin connector, and the other didn't, but was cleaned out really well. Both are still too fickle for my tastes. But since I started this thread I've gotten enough info about various NES clones to know that I don't want one.
I'd like to get either a Sharp Twin Famicom, or a Japanese Famicom AV-I know you can get reverse converters to play American NES games on them. And they have AV out. They aren't cheap, but neither is the top-loader NES.
