So its been almost a year now that I have been following the new Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver games, and I have not yet seen one word of in the the GI. This makes me very sad. Pokemon has a large following, I mean you guys put in the top 50 of your top 200 games of all time and the new game cant even get in the magazine? If the Nintendo website announces it before you guys my view of GI will be destroyed forever. Now, my subscription ran out and I missed one magazine, the Beatles Rock Band issue, if it was in there i apologize, and will someone let me know :)

I haven't seen anything about it, but what's to write? It's out in Japan, it has sold extremely well, and it is coming to the US in Spring of 2010. There's nothing to report.

Don't worry man, even though they don't do previews over the Pokemon games, they always review them.

Until the series makes another notable leap, there's honestly no reason for intense preview coverage. It'd be like spending a lot of time previewing the new Dynasty Warriors game. You know the formula by now, and you're either going to buy the next game or decide that you've had your fill. The last one that got really focused attention as far as previews were concerned was Gold/Silver, and rightfully so. I believe that other generational leaps also received some coverage due to some new concepts and a tech improvement, but these newest iterations really don't offer much of anything compelling to discuss. They are updates rather than full sequels in many cases...if anything it goes to show how resilient the basic formula really is to enjoy this type of longevity, but you're dealing with "variations of the same tune" in many regards.

agreed with poster Kevin Maskornick, great analogy using Dynasty Warriors. I cant Imagine a full one or two page spread each time a new installment for Dynasty Warriors came out. What's to say?

The pokemon series does have a huge following but it's been around for SO long and carries with it s sort of... wierd stigma that it's almost not worth covering. Especially in light of things like God of War III, GT5, and FFXIII... I'm sorry but you're really not going to get many people interested in virtual slave trading over FFXIII

That aside, it makes sense for Nintendo to really touch on it first, given that pokemon is a first party title from Nintento.

Because more or less - that's what you're doing. You gotta enslave em all.

You take a ball and capture a creature, then force it to beat up other creatures. if your creature wins, you can take the other one and force it to serve a new master. Or am I wrong about mechanics of the game?

I don't recall in any of the game dialogue where the main character or ANY character for that matter asks a pokemon if they'd 'like' to come along... I mean, doesn't squirtle get a say in it?

Well, if you really want to get into it, that's how some people see it. When you peel away the veneer of colorful hybrid creatures sleeping in balls  - what do you have - human masters oppressing animals. I know most people don't see it that way but most people don't see the Washington Redskins as a huge deal either... that is unless you're a Native American and 'redskin' is a derogatory slur.

Now, to be clear, I was actually kidding more than I was being serious... I know it's not what the game is about, but I also know that under the surface, that's what the objective equates to.

As much as I agree with that logical thinking, why don't they try to make a Pokemon game from their perspecti- oh, wait, they did? Pokemon Mystery Dungeon?

This game sucks!

Sometimes, you have to interpret games as serious business, and other times, you just have to enjoy yourself and have fun with the game and forget about the rules of our world. That's the primary reason for gaming in the first place.

I'm still waiting for a special Michael Vick edition of Pokemon. Or at least a cameo, like as a gym trainer or something. Pick up the slack, Nintendo.
