The lights are on
Alright DS gamers, I'm all ears. What games are good for the DS/3DS that aren't necessarily Mario or JRPGs? I personally disdain Mario but I'm still attracted to the 3DS due to a far more reasonable price point to the Vita, but outside of the Resident Evil games for the 3DS and maybe Ocarina of Time and that Metroid: Bounty Hunter games. Phoenix Wright and that ghost game are on iOS for free so I'd probably just get them on there. I'm pretty open to horror, action, action-RPG, or other -- although traditional JRPGs do not appeal me in the least.
I'm all ears guys.
I am Paradigm the Fallen.
That's "Para-dime". Not "Pair-of-dig-em".
Samurai Warriors: Chronicles
Theatrythm: Final Fantasy
Mighty Switch Force
Drawn to Life
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
And Devil Survivor Overclocked, it's a mixture of Japanese and Strategy RPGs so I'm not sure if you would consider it 'to traditional.' While on the subject of JRPGs I don't consider traditional, The World Ends With You. I'd look up a video to see if the gameplay interests you. Also, the IOS port of TWEWY is inferior to the original, the new combat system breaks the theme the original game followed so well even in it's gameplay.
Peaceful Days died, Let's Survive
To clarify, I've enjoyed two turn-based games in my gaming history so far -- Civ 3 and LotR: Tactics.
I've heard of Drawn to Life and the Castlevania games for handhelds are supposed to be good.
I've seen TWEWY -- it holds no appeal to me. Just like DotA/MoBA games, everyone insists I should love it but every brush I have with it is just not appealing at all. I hope anyone reading this just leaves it at that, when it comes to TWEWY.
I love TWEWY as well, but since you shun that, I'd recommend Castlevania: Dawn Of Sorrow.. It's a great Metroidvania style game and the soul collection system adds a lot of depth to the customization.
All of the DS Castlevania games and
The Megaman ZX series + Zero Collection
Does anyone have anything that isn't a 2D side scroller to recommend? Maybe something that pushed the boundaries of the DS/3DS, like Dementium, or something that wasn't based on an established franchise that hasn't already been mentioned?
I would suggest the Etrian Odyssey Series, the 2 thatare on 3ds at least. Think Dungeons and Dragons, with a bit of tech thrown in. I quite enjoy them, and they are turn-based games.
Elite Beat Agents is an amazing DS game. Probably my favorite title out of the DS library. It's often overlooked, but it's pretty amazing, and has insane amounts of replay value.
If you want something with a great story I would suggest 999 or its sequel Virtues Last Reward. If you like puzzles the Professor Layton games are great too.
I liked Ghost Recon if you are in to turn based strategy games.
