  • Well, the Pokemon series was the first gaming I ever experienced in my life (Around age 5), and the current iterations are still decidedly good.

She might be a bit too young to handle the puzzles in Professor Layton, but I'm sure if she played it with you, some great learning and fun experiences could follow.  Other than that, New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart are both brilliant and accessible titles for kids of all ages.  Nintendogs or Animal Crossing: Wild World would also do nicely.

Hope I was of some assistance!

  • yea. pretty much New Super Mario Bros and Mario Kart DS. maybe even Pokemon.

  • New Super Mario Bros. is great, she'll love that.  Mario Kart is really fun, and both games are pretty simple.  If she likes animals, then definitely get Nintendogs or Petz.  She might like Pokemon, but some words may be too hard for her to read, and she might not get the type match-ups.  Games like Brain Age and Big Brain Academy might work, but the activities might be too complicated for her to handle.  Good luck =)

  • Get her Kirby Canvas Curse. It has plenty of colors, style and will get her to become very adept with a stylus. In effect it should help with development of her motor skills by giving her finer ones with her fingers. Some actions may be a bit difficult for her, but she'll learn quickly. She's five, she'll learn very quickly.

I'd also like to suggest Tetris DS if you can find it and afford it. Warioware Touched and Rhythm Heaven would also be nice choices. I'd also highly recommend Feel the Magic and its' sequel The Rub Rabbits. They are quirky and mainly a collection of mini-games, but they're very fun, humorous and silly. She'll love them.

None of those games require much if any reading. I'd also like to second Mario Kart because of how much fun it can be alone or with other people. If her friends have DS'es then she's playing with them easily.

Yea, I'd say as good pairing of games for your daughter would be Tetris DS and Warioware Touched. If Tetris is just out of price range and your daughter has someone to play multiplayer with then I'd suggest Mario Kart DS in its' place. If she's going to be alone then Rhythm Heaven will hold her attention for a long time.

I would personally unlock a few levels for her everytime she stops playing just to make sure she's enjoying herself. There are a few difficult parts, but it's extremely simple stuff. You just lose a few times, go to the cafe or whatever it's called and get the latest stage unlocked.

The beauty of my muscles will warm your heart.

  • If she can read I would recommend: Nintnedogs, Animal Crossind, Mario Party, and Club Penguin.

  • I have a bunch of kid friendly games for the DS due to my little brother, so let's take a look at what we have.

First off, Animal Crossing: Wild World.  This is the type of game you can't go wrong with.  There's inappropriate content whatsoever, and it's accessible to people of any age.  There's no real challenge to it and no specific goals or rules to adhere to.  Definitely my #1 choice for a child of that age.

Next we have Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force.  I haven't spent much time with the game myself, but it's not a bad pickup.  It wouldn't be at the top of my list, but if your daughter has an account on Club Penguin, anything she unlocks in this game can be unlocked in your online account.

Big Brain Academy/Brain Age.  We got these for my brother when he was about six years old and he loved them.  Really helps with brain development and whatnot.  Definitely recommended.

Yoshi's Island 2.  Possibly not recommended just yet.  The visuals and sounds are appealing to a child, but there are some levels in the game that can prove to be pretty difficult, especially for a child of that age.

New Super Mario Bros.  Same case as above.  It all depends on how well you think she'd do.  The game can be pretty challenging at times, but it's definitely a fun game for younger kids.

Mario Kart DS - Great game all around.  Highly recommended.  My brother and I have spent countless hours playing this together.

Super Monkey Ball: Touch & Roll.  Pretty appealing to kids, though the all touch screen controls can be frustrating in certain game modes.  I think she'd enjoy it.

Line Rider 2.  If she's creative, give this one a shot.  The game has a nice tutorial mode that shows you everything you'd need to know, and it's genuinely fun creating tracks for the sledder to traverse.

Nintendogs.  Again, can't go wrong here.  Little to no difficulty to speak of, and it's something that can keep a child occupied for quite a while.

These are just some of the games I own.  I think they'd be appropriate and entertaining for a child of your daughter's age.  Also, I have personally played every game in the above list and can confirm the difficulty levels and playability of all of them.

Kojima-san doesn't need to make Metal Gear anymore

  • Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and upcoming Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

    New Super Mario Bros.

    Mario Kart DS

Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure

  • All the other guys here seemed to have mentioned some really good ones, the only other one I'd suggest is 'The Legendary Starfy' which I enjoyed myself, even though I'm about 30 ^.^

  • I would definitely like to say thank you to everyone. You have definitely given me tons of feedback to help me pick games for Christmas and her birthday. I really appreciate the feedback and info on these games.

  • Yeah go for the mario games, like Mario Cart Ds and Super Mario Bro. Ds. The Pokemn series is good, and the game Proessor Layton and the Curious Village s a fun game for all ages.
