The lights are on
Christmas has come and gone and I am left with a large sum of money. I could be responsible and save it, or I could make myself happy and buy a DS/3DS.
Now I know there are a couple dozen games I want for the DS (feel free to suggest some), and there are a few for the 3DS as well that I would love to play, but I cannot decide if it is worth dropping the extra $50+.
A few things you may want to know before you give me advice:
The 3D part, not a big deal in my mind, probably wouldn't use it much
I really enjoy RPGs and plan on playing mostly those
Ocarina of Time and Zero's Escape: Virtue's Last Reward are really the only game that seems like a must buy with the 3DS
Analog sticks are nice
I like saving money
Alright that seems like all I can think of, feel free to ask questions with your advice.
On a final note, is 3DS XL way better than the regular 3DS, I can afford either, but it doesn't seem all that necessary.
I am unsure about this (and it is a major deciding factor), do all iterations of the DS come with the ability to access the virtual store (or whatever it's called) and buy old classic Nintendo games?
I'd say fork over the extra money and get the 3DS XL. I got the original 3DS on day one and I kind of regret it because the XL is so much bigger, brighter and better. The Nintendo eShop (which is the virtual store you were thinking of) is really good and I think you can only access it on the 3DS. You can download a bunch of classic games, videos, and all kinds of cool stuff and you can play all the originial DS games on the 3DS. If you do end up getting a 3DS I suggest picking up Resident Evil: Revelations also if you are into shooters or Resident Evil. It is easily the best game I played on the 3DS next to Ocarina of Time.
I too was on the edge, but looking at the vast wealth of games the system has to offer, and seeing as I too have come across a sizable sum of cash, I have finally decided that it is time for me to finally make the jump into 3DS.
The upcoming RPG Fire Emblem Awakening, and the later-on Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon were both key factors in deciding this particular time. I will certainly be happy with the titles that have come out since 2011 and am sure that I will be pleased eith my purchase. Not to mention Pokemon X and Y will be released for the 3DS later on this year.
To my understanding the XL model is the one I am going with, as it has twice the battery life, larger screens, and will most likely be a better fit for my hand.
In regards to the eShop (Nintendo's online digital service), that feature is exclusive to the 3DS and Wii U.
Hope this helped.
I believe the new Castlevania they are making is Exclusive to 3DS and will be AWESOME I bet. That series has been one of my favorites since the very first one in the 80's and like most CV games I thought Lords of Shadow was excellent and way underrated.
Great stuff. I am currently looking at maybe adding a DS to my collection. We will see.
Buy a 3DS XL when Gamestop's got a good trade-in deal. See what they've got over the summer. If there are games you want, you can wait for their prices to fall.
It is worth it
1. DS is an old system they would stop making DS games in about a year to focus more on the 3ds.
2. 3ds can play ds games so you would be able to play with older games on this system
3. 3ds can interact with other 3ds for new in game functions
4. It is a next gen hand held they will focus on this for at least 5 years. There will be other 3ds type systems but ultimately they all do the same thing like the origional ds to ds lite xl all did the same thing only difference from ds lite to ds lite xl it lost gba backward compatibility.
It is worth the extra 50 and you wont regret it
to follow up on this thread:
That Castlevania 3DS exclusive that just came out is unbelievably good.
