The lights are on
I have a gamerscore of about 50,000 and while that is mostly an arbitrary number to me and often provides cannon fodder to 12 year olds on Call of Duty on how I have no life (yet they are max prestige 1 month after the game released). Sorry, I digress. The point is my gamerscore holds meaning to me. It allows me to look back at the past 6 years I have had an Xbox 360 and relieve some of those moments in my head that are triggered by reading those achievements. Honestly I would be fairly disappointed and upset if they did not carry over. My Xbox 360 plans on being the first console that I will keep around with all its games and not sell back in order to by the Nextbox. There are just too many great games and too many great memories. All of which are accentuated by the list of achievements. Let me know what you guys think.
War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength.
That's all up to Microsoft. There is a chance that they could allow XBOX 360 profiles and accounts to be transferable between consoles,however...I doubt it.
One would hope so. If they continue using the current achievement system i would assume yes, but then again this is Microsoft
Part of me hopes they do not, since I like a fresh start. I don't really have a guess though. Could really go either way.
I've thought about this too, and I personally hope that Microsoft carries over the existing Gamerscore. Also, I would like to see a less arbitrary way of assigning point values to future games, like linking them with a system that calculates the point value based on the number of players that have unlocked the achievements (higher score for fewer unlocks, lower score for more common unlocks).
This is something I can guarantee will be carried over to the 720/Infinity. The Xbox is not just a device that allows you to play games like every generation of consoles before it. It's a digital entertainment device that is tied to your own personal identity and online profile. You gamerscore is a part of your profile, your online identity, and past 7 years of hobbying. Your gamertag will carry over, so your score will carry over.
I mean, do you have to recreate you Facebook account every time you get a new computer or smart phone? Why? Because your FB profile is not attached to one particular device or even one particular operating system. That is how your XBL profile is; not an identity tied to one piece of hardware, but an identity tied to Microsoft. You can guarantee that whatever MS decides to do in the future of Xbox will include the carrying over of your profile, gaming history, and score.

They better keep my gamerscore! I spent way to much time and money on all these games to just have it disappear/reset when I get the next one. They would have a lot of enraged gamers if they didn't. I think they will though because of how they are trying to keep all of you stuff connected from Windows phones to Zune to Xbox Live to the new Smartglass thing they are working on. They seem to want everything connected and improve your experience with one thing by adding functionality with another.
considering that window's 8 is continuing with the achievements through xbl integration there is no reason to doubt that the next box will continue with the trend.
With the way Microsoft has their whole system set up, I can't see why they wouldn't let you simply "reclaim" your Gamer Tag on the next LIVE system.
They're too involved with having everything integrated to make everyone try and race to get their old GT's onto the new system.
We'll probably just reclaim it like you do on the 360 LIVE system now, but it will just update it to the newer system once it's reclaimed.
Spartans don't die. They just re-spawn in 5 seconds.
I do not believe they will; however, I do see a positive option being different badges on your account for prior gamerscore ranks. Carrying existing point forward would have a 5 year 360 owner look like a daunting opponent to a first time Microsoft console owner. This could leave new owners feeling somewhat alienated.
Microsoft is pushing connectivity across platforms. It only makes sense to transfer your account in entirety.
Well I have been thinking of this too... Microsoft is very Doubt able because they want more money. For the PS4 I could see them carrying it over and if they do I will be very happy, and same goes for Xbox. So in the end I really hope they do.
Very doubtful since its a new system with new games.
