The lights are on
Microsoft has announced that they will not be having the original Xbox games available for online play.
Including Halo 2 and Counter Strike. And YES this counts for playing them on the Xbox 360. They will take this action on April 15 2010.
Proof? Maybe you should watch Attack Of The Show. Not a fan? http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2010/02/xbox-live/
But what are your thoughts?
Im gonna be kind of sad in a way that I cant go back onto Halo 2 and enjoy some Hardcore :[.
Im actually ok with this.... time to accept the change or be left behind.... People still on xbox games vs cost of operating the servers probably makes it more cost effective to shut it down... plus, more resources into the 360
It's time to move on does anyone really play the original anymore comon now
*Sigh*...it's like having an old friend die. So long, old friends. =( Oh, and I do still play older games. So, yeah, people still use them.
I don't play original xbox games anymore, well at least online. I'm fine with taking down all the servers for old games because it will help improve the 360. I know lots of people still play older games like Counter Strike, but it's time to move on.
If you post it, they will troll.
I'll mis playing halo 2 late at night. which is sad because a ton of people still play halo 2.
Like Machinima?

I don't care, it makes more sense to shut down the servers for the original xbox so you can revamp the 360

Well im right there with LittleBigDaddy and Stuart on that one ill miss Halo 2 online.
It's sad to think about all the time and memories spent with Halo 2, but if this is what's going to help move the service forward and get better then I'm all forward. Thanks to Microsoft for keeping the service alive for so long instead of just scrapping it when the 360 came out.
I really do think that it is a good decision in the end. While some of the old games were fun, today either nobody plays them or they have a sequal that is better. They should really come up with something amazing for the 360 users.
no more Halo 2???
oh well at least there is Halo 3, ODST, and upcoming Reach.
there is more positives then negatives when you actually think about it.
I don't own any original Xbox titles so this doesn't make much difference to me. Most of my time with Halo 2 was spent playing in LAN parties anyway, so I don't even have good memories from Xbox LIVE to reminisce about.
In short, I'm glad that the resources formerly diverted there can be used to improve our experience with current generation stuff.
Unless they make a Star Wars Battle front III for 360 I'm going to say closing servers sucks
Overall, it's the most economic decision for Microsoft, and of course it'll be sad when they're gone for good, but there are always other games. It's like when a pet dies, it's not like the thought of buying a new one will make it any better, but simply enjoy your memories with it and simply let it rest in piece...
