someone stole my xbox 360 hardrive. but my cousin gave me a memory chip that is 16 gigabytes big. should i get a new hardrive or keep using the memory chip?

Over the weekend, I started seeing pixels all over the screen and colors look like they're fading, but still bright. I called support and they suggested I buy new cables, which I did and they didn't work. I've tried just about everything I can think of, but each time I call back, they tell me it's nothing serious.

I'm pretty sure it needs to be repaired, but one person said I have to pay before they ship me a box which will cost around $120 that I don't have. Anyone else have any ideas or am I out of luck?

Alright I have a question I need help with before I proceed. Im brand new to the XBL thing and Im in the process of researching routers and wireless adaptors. Do you have to have the actual xbox wire adaptor that plugs in the xbox or can I use one the just plugs into one ofthe USB's??? And if so do I need a specific router for a "g" connection??? I know N is the new new but I dont have the cash to sling 100 out for the adaptor and another who knows for the special router or whatever. Please help xD

Ok my 360 won't read any games this so frustrating I'm snowed in and I can't even play my 360 any suggestions and I'm not getting any error messages it just won't read them??????? besides the obvious thing of getting a new one

I have a few quick questions - As of yesterday I have a new isp and because of the location of the new router I can no longer connect my 360 directly to it. I'm guessing I need some kind of wi-fi adapter now, right? Also, roughly how much will it cost and is it reliable? Keep in mind that I don't play online multi, but I do download a good amount of stuff.

Thanks for all of your help dude. And yeah my TV has a VGA jack so I guess that could be an option, but I know little to nothing about it haha, so we shall see. Thanks for the help though, I might look into both of those options. Just wish that Microsoft could find a way to upconvert those of us foolish enough to buy the first-gen 360s...

I tried to find a list of TVs that support 1080p through component cables, but I couldn't find one. From what I understand, the number of TVs that do isn't very many, so unfortunately I think it's likely that that's the issue you're having.

So...

There's the XCM HDMI 1080i cable that can apparently turn your 360 into an HDMI 360. I don't have any experience with it, but it seems to be around $80-$100, so I don't know if that would be worth it to you.

Another alternative is VGA, but I don't know if your TV has a VGA port. If it does, you can get the Xbox 360 VGA cable and run 1080p that way. I don't have any experience with VGA either, but apparently it won't run some DVDs (or all DVDs, I don't know) because it won't play protected content. Maybe someone else can shine some light on that.

Its an Apex, not sure what model. Yeah, the TV is 1080p but one of my friends was saying that that doesnt technically mean that the component ports also can run 1080p. Lame. Is there anyway to make my older 360 into a HDMI compatible one?

Hey Nick,

What kind of TV do you have? While the 360 and the 360 component cables are capable of ouputting 1080p, from what I understand a lot of TVs are not able to accept 1080p from component cables.

And was wondering if the wonderful mates out there in GI land could come to my aid. Well I recently bought a new TV, and it states that it can run up to the full 1080p setting. My Xbox is, however, an older generation 360 so HDMI is out of the question for now, so I hooked it up using component cables. I switched the cables to HDTV, and went into the dashboard to change the resolution settings, but for some reason my image looks good at 720, and gets ugly if I take it to 1080p. There are vertical lines about an inch a part running down the screen, which makes all of the text look blurry, so lately I've been bummed that I've had to run it at 720p. Anyone out there have any idea why putting my settings up to 1080p is screwing with my image?

On another note, does anyone know when the BF:BC2 Beta is coming on the 360? I am a Bad Company FANATIC. It is so much fun. For all of you that have it, you probably know that on the scroll bar that shows BC news when you are choosing a match has said "BF:BC2 360 BETA/DEMO COMING SOON!!!!" When is "SOON"? Hopefully that means VERY soon, and not "WHEN WE FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE BEEN TORTURED ENOUGH WITH WAITING".

I HAVE IT LAYING HORIZONTALLY FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE THAT ARE SUGGESTING THAT!!!!! Thanks for all the replies. Really. I'm glad that I'm not the only one. I am just not happy that it is inevitably going to break. I might as well shell out $300 for the Elite. Also, it has been doing this for more than six months, and I haven't got RROD yet. At least I have other gaming consoles to ease my gaming pain. (Although, no system will top the XBox360.)

Well, my friend sent his xbox in cause of red ring, and the microsoft people sent him a letter saying that the fan runs better when vertical, since there isn't as much pressure on it, but if the xbox falls over, then your disc is F-ed. So it's pretty up to you.

If you have it standing up it blocks the bottom vent which decreases the ventilation which increases the heat. I keep mine lying down.

i've experienced the problem where i put a game in and it says "play dvd". I sent mine in to microsoft just to be safe.

Mine does the same thing so I bought a replacement DVD Drive for my XBox. I will fix it myself costing half the price it would have.

Personally about your XBox I would call the tech support and see what they say. Since it is a new xbox it would still be under warranty so they would fix it for free or maybe it is unfixable and you might have to just figure out a way to get used to it. This has never happened to me other than what is right now. Good Luck!
