well actually nba live is much better than 2k this year I will have to say that
Maybe cause they think it's gunna be really good.
Because the idea of a "crappy game" is subjective.
When all is said and done, more will have been said than done.
Please elaborate.
NBA Live series is opinionated. Even if you don't like the game, developers know that there are millions of people out there who will buy the game.
As for Sonic, SEGA was simply experimenting to see what worked and what didn't. Obviously, they realized their ideas didn't work, and now they are going back to their old 2D roots with the upcoming release of Sonic 4.

I dunno about NBA Live, but personally I wish they (EA) would put out a new NBA Street, as Homecourt was excellent, but a few years past now.
nevaR!
Sonic was dead to me for a long time until i saw that new trailer for the new 2d Sonic game. I'm really looking forward to that.
Obviously no developer sets out to make a crappy game and no publisher really thinks it's a great idea to sink a lot of money into crappy games. The fact of the matter is that you just don't know how a game is going to turn out in the end. Games are normally in devleopment for at least 2 years. Throughout that time a developer or publisher has to decide, at certain stages, the risk/reward ratio of continuing to fund a game or simply cancelling it and eating the loss. And sometimes a publisher will release a game before it's polished because they don't feel it would be worth it to continue funding but they want to try to make some of their money back.
In short, there's an entire process behind game development and it's far more complicated than you're making it seem by asking why publishers put so much money into crappy games.

Like G.I. JOE it played kinda like an old Contra game come on they should of known better Hell my 8 year old thought it sucked if that tells you how bad it was.
Publisher make game for the" lowest common denominator" Most people will buy a game based on hype alone, so they can make a crap game for cheap, throw most of the cash into marketing, and people come out in droves to buy it...
Because they don't know ***!
They take a franchise we know and love, make a new version of it and call it a day. The sad thing is they forget were looking for the new. I would rather buy new IP now because im scared if they didnt do anything new to the game
@Gabriel: actually I don't think that's true (than no one ever sets out to make a crap game just for a buck); how else do you explain all the shovelware on Wii/ iPod apps/ other phone games and digital direct sources?
they dont want to admit that they are bad games
