Chrono Trigger

  • Nostalgia.  Just kidding.  It comes from the Super Nintendo era of games, and is just a really cool RPG.  It has cool characters, a great sense of humor, and a fun story involving time travel as your heroes have to jump to different points in a fantasy world's history to try and stop the end of the world.  (You go to medieval times, an ancient magical kingdom, the Prehistoric era, even the post-apocalyptic future.)  If you don't like older games, you probably won't appreciate it as much as those who played it around the time it came out.  But if you don't mind playing a game that's a bit Retro now, and you like RPGs, then I would totally recommend it.  It's one of the best games to come out of the Super Nintendo system, in my opinion.  And now that it has been re-released on the DS, it should be pretty easy to get a hold of a copy and experience it for yourself.

  • Chrono Trigger is a game that was huge on the Super Nintendo.  Most people my age (mid to late twenties) hold it very close to their heart.  So, there is a nostalgia aspect.  But the game still holds up very well today.  I downloaded it again the Wii shop channel and played a bit of it.  It's just as I remember, but the gameplay isn't bad like some other older games.  The story is amazing and very thought provoking.

If you have patience and don't mind playing an older game with some older mechanics, this is a must play for video game fans.

  • ^Exactly what these guys said.  EVERYBODY should play Chrono Trigger at least once.

Plus the game has great music, my personal favorites being Frog's Theme and 600 A.D. The characters are really memorable and it's easy to get sucked up into the story.  The game play really has held solid over time.  It's overall just a great game, you should definitely check it out.

  • As everyone else said, it was a game during the SNES era, which was highly regarded as having revolutionary RPG's.

It had an interesting plot, involving time travel and whatnot. The characters were engaging, also in my opinion not as much as Final Fantasy VI's (or FFIII on the SNES). It also had multiple endings, depending on when you defeated the final boss, which was something fairly new to video games.

The music is also very good, with great SNES-era songs such as Wind Scene.

I recommend playing it at least once, and if you like it, I would recommend FFVI for a similar style. There is also a sequel called Chrono Chross, although I don't recommend it as much as the original.

  • Its prolly one rpg that done things right. Battle system is solid, story is great, the music sticks with ya, the characters actually are lame, and the team attacks are fun to do  X-Strike!!

This doesn't belong in a blog..... it belongs......  ON FRONT PAGE!!! It all makes sense now.

  • One word... Magus... Best anti-hero ever.

If you bred HK-47, Shale, Chai Ka and Wrex, the gaming world would explode from sheer badassery.

  • Chrono Trigger is a very important game and for good reason this was one game that made alot of changes to the RPG genre in terms of story in that it doesnt always have to be one set path to save the world and that there can be other ways and it also brought one of the most shocking moments in gaming but I wont tell you if you havent played it yet. It also brought changes in terms of gameplay by not using random encounters for battle and also introduced team combined attacks which were never done before. This game for the most part is all about nostalgia it was a big part of my childhood, it was the first RPG I played before I ever heard of RPGs so for that it is very important.

  • Personally, I never heard of it until it was released on the Nintendo Virtual Console.  I am 28 but somehow missed this game.  I am excited to download and play through it though, which I will be doing soon.

  • It's one of gaming's most famous JRPGs, and set the standard for the genre. It's about time travel and a hot neanderthal chick and a badass space demon. Multiple endings and a bunch of secrets. If that sounds interesting, I'd recommend the re-release on the DS.
