Whether it be the low res graffics or the cheesy music.
You raise a valid point, I should have been more thorough in my explanation. Barring off-shoots such as Mario Party, Mario Kart, Mario X Sport... etc. I was referring to classical Mario games.

I just wanted to be silly :)

No game series pumps out five games a year, save Imagine DS. If a retro game is remade, let it be done! Don't buy it if you don't like it. Someone will, and one day that remake will be retro, and said person will be elitist about it then too.

Re: Eggs with a side of Rehash---How far can one go?

Amanda:

But then again, I'm sure we'd be more sick of Mario if five Mario games came out across assorted Nintendo platforms each and every year.

Wii, 2009:

1. Mario Power Tennis (remake)

2. Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games (double-whammy)

3. New Super Mario Bros. (it's the old one, with four players)

DS, 2009:

1. Bowser's Inside Story

2. Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games (I'll give you this one, since it's cross-platform)

I named 5! I'm pretty tired of Mario. But at least rehashing classics introduces young gamers to them, and keeps the franchises alive. Those developers shouldn't just sit in their basements wishing for better days, after all.

I consider oot the greatest game of all time, but most young people won,t play it because the graphics have aged badly. classics are fine, everybody should get a chance to experience them like we did.

Re: Eggs with a side of Rehash---How far can one go?

Matt:

Through all of Mario Galaxy's greatness, there's a reason (aside from finding new ways to deviate on the formula) that they come out every once in a great while and not just the fact that each release sells like hot cakes.

Eggs with a side of Rehash---How far can one go?

LOL Totally agree! X was my fave series. The only problem with making sequels is that they tend to attempt to pay homage to the original....and fail! Sonic is a great example. The xb360/ps3 3d versions sucked. He started in 2d and should stay!

Eggs with a side of Rehash---How far can one go?

Dude, nothing can top the classics of yester-year or even way before that. I don't care how many people are buying MW 2, because I love Megaman X. People shouldn't remake old games (look at what happened to Sonic the Hedgehog!) because if there great, they don't need to be remade. They just need to keep making sequels to once great games, and people won't complain they've ruined them.

Eggs with a side of Rehash---How far can one go?

In the past, there have been a plethora of great games optaining the title "Classic." There is something very heartwarming about many of the retro games. Whether it be the low res graffics or the cheesy music. Maybe even the difficulty (or lack there of) is what draws us back to the games of yester-year. But why is that some people feel the need to remake the game and upgreat everything about it? New sound, polygons instead of pixels, rehashing the story. Should one leave the game as is or just completely revolutionise it?
