The lights are on
I'm the biggest MGS fan, first off. But I don't have a psp and... I haven't gotten around to the collection yet. Call it life interfering with gaming.
Anyways, as an outsider, I couldn't help but notice this so called MGS5, never really gathered the same kind of hype as a main entry, despite sorta being one. In fact, most of what I hear is not great.
Know I know it sets up where Kojima is taking this series, ala Ground Zeroes, So I'm gonna get it eventually. I just want to know, if anyone thinks this title truly lives up to the name, specifically in story telling. Maybe I'll get around to it a little sooner, you know? Thanks for your time!
Peace Walker is a spin-off, first of all. Second, it does fill in a gap in that you play as Big Boss in the founding of Outer Heaven. The story is great, and the game brings a new gameplay mechanic where you get to manage an offshore base called Mother Base, which is Big Boss's base before Outer Heaven. As far as contributing to the series, it really just fills in a gap in the series' long history. I think it's worth getting.
By the way, I'm the biggest MGS fan, not you.
Get peacewalker if you have the chance.
It's not a spinoff. It's a fully canon game produced by Kojima. It's a great game that is very unique, but I'd say if you had to pass on this one, you could get the gist of it from Wiki.
Portable Ops is also canon, taking place between MGS3 and PW, but it's not a Kojima game. The story to that one is good as well, but I couldn't deal with the gameplay. I finished it once, as opposed to the other ones a plethora of times.
I'd vote play it before hand, since there were a few little references to it already in the first trailer we saw for GZ. Who wouldn't want to build Outer Haven themselves anyway right?
@Servant of God: Thanks for the info.
But, I am the biggest MGS fan. I played though the nes Metal Gear, on the nes! And not back in the day, I did it in 2004!
I get the feeling PO is regarded as spin off even though it's canon. Like, Kojima not even bothering to put it into the HD collection.
I have the MSX versions of the game on the HD Collection. And Peace Walker is on the HD Collection.
The point is playing the nes version is a complete pain in the arse. [buggy, mistranslated, no saves]
The kinda pain, only the biggest mgs fan in the world would endure... lol.
