The lights are on
Basically, I got Call of Duty 4 a couple years ago and kinda loved it. Awesome campaign, addictive multi. But then MW2 hit and everyone trashed it for a short campaign, broken multi, and I just decided to steer clear of it.. And I haven't touched any of the newer ones since.
But then I ended up playing MW3 at a friends and I was blown away. The couch co op, new maps, new perks, all awesome! I suppose I've been drinking at the fountain of haterade so much I allowed myself to be blinded to the good points of this series.
So I was hoping to know, what's the best Cod to buy now? MW2, Black ops, or 3? I suspect I can get the earlier two on the cheap, but are they worth it? What is the best cod standing in people's oppinions? {if it means anything, I'm playing on ps3]

Well, first things first... If you enjoyed the original MW and now MW3 the choice seems obvious to fill in the gap with MW2. You missed kind of the central part of the plot by skipping that entry x.x More wonderful spec ops missions there as well, however I will readily admit the balance to MW2 multi is heavily flawed, so I would say give it a try but don't stick around. Same sentiments on World at War, as far as "only for the campaign" at this point, as the multiplayer for that is utterly unusable due to the ease of hacking it.
All that out of the way, I would actually recommend Black Ops as my favorite/top pick both for campaign and multiplayer at this point. Can't say I'm a fan of zombies personally, but plenty of people seem to love it so, give that a shot while you're there.

Yeah, can't say the narrative was a driving force for me so continuity isn't an issue. Would like to see that airport thing for myself, but that's my only real incentive for that one.
I actually still like zombies, so is the consensus Black ops is the best COD? And is the local multi as good there as 3? That's prolly my biggest issue.
*shrug* With the "short campaign" being a favorite thing for detractors to cite, luckily you can consider this a positive while trying to experience the backlog of entries if you haven't before. Get around to MW2 if you can, but yea I'll stand by my Black Ops comments. The local multi is actually even more robust than MW3 in the customization of game modes.
Thanks, good to know. I suppose if I see 2 for cheap, I'll give it a shot too.
I've played every CoD the year they came out since CoD 3 was released. CoD4 had an AMAZING multiplayer and *** campaign. WaW was fun while it had lasted. The campaign was filled with fun and the multiplayer was so-so. Modern Warfare 2 was one of my favorite CoDs but the Grenade Launchers with One Man Army along with all of the new players and even the pros just sitting in a corner waiting for someone to come by. Along side with that the killstreaks were easy to obtain and could get you killed many times and it was on the enemy team. This is where CoD went down (in my opinion). But, never the less...I bought Black Ops. The campaign was left off 20 years later after WWII. The campaign was okay, but the main part that was fun about it was zombies. The multiplayer was kind of ridiculous with the same thing that annoyed me in Modern Warfare 2, Camping and Grenade Launchers (except his time there was no One Man Army and scavenger didn't replenish the grenades). When Modern Warfare 3 came out, I just got rid of it the month after I bought it (traded to a friend for one of his games). Sure, the launchers were nerfed, but again, camping had returned! I may have not mentioned this but, I also had one of the biggest problems with Last Stand. I had gotten sick of it then just went back to Black Ops considering how I noticed there weren't many Campers or Grenade Launcher users anymore. I would say that CoD4 was my favorite out of all of them but, I don't play it considering how about %80 percent of the time I get in a hacked lobby which completely ruins the game. Same for WaW. I don't play Modern Warfare 2, as well because it's still got the same problems as it originally had, but more people started to mod in it more often. I stuck with Black Ops because it didn't annoy me as much as the others. If the problems were fixed with CoD4 and MW2 (which I highly doubt they will get fixed), I would start playing those instead. I'm not sure what's going on for the PS3 since I'm an Xbox gamer, but I heard MW3 players were worse on that console than in Xbox, so I guess I' recommend that for ya....
Call of Duty 1/Classic?
MW2 did have a short, but rewarding, campaign, skip black ops altogether, oh and 2 was good.
Bullets....*gasp* my only weakness!

MW3 is the way to go and ive played all of them religiously......however MW3 is the only one i plan to prestige 10 (or 15 not really sure) times......and if multiplayer isnt enough couch-coop survival should do the trick.
Beer is the answer, but I can't remember the question.
Here's a little add on question.... what's with the zombie dlc of Black ops? I have no interest in multi maps, but zombie mode in black ops has really won me over, save Activision has made owning more of it a real hassle.
Is there a zombie mode collection, a goty edition, or any hope those maps will ever be reasonably priced at some point?
Or should I just give up on owning any more zombie goodness?
Also, to address some older points, I have to say World at War's single player was the only thing I didn't like about it. But the multi was awesome, and zombies... well the one non dlc zombies is pathetic on that.
I hear all this talk of hacking, my impression is it happens a lot less on ps3. I've never been hacked on WaW[great multi btw], and although I've seen some crazy stuff on cod4, it's no where near 80% of the time.
Personally, I would agree Black ops is the best so far, the ability to take two people online at the same time is an amazing boon I can't believe isn't given more hype, zombies is for me the real draw, and the single player isn't too far off Cod 4's acccomplishments.
I don't like the traditional multi too much though, even with the ability to bring a friend along I can still see a lot of short comings. Perks have clogged the gameplay to one big cluster f@ck situation, the maps are tiny and badly designed imo.
So it goes black ops, 4, then Waw, imo.
Well, Black Ops' multiplayer is certainly a bit different. You can rack up better kills, but it kind of takes more skill for some reason. Weapons handle like that era, and are a tad different as well. Sniping takes away the majority of quick or no scoping as well, but it can still be done- just not as readily.
Im gonna have to go with COD Black Ops , I enjoyed every minute of Black Ops venturing from campaign to multiplayer to co op missions. I also enjoyed the elite weaponry , gun classes and expansive game modes, features and extremely graphical maps.
Classes were neat for that one indeed...
im gonna go battlefield 3. *troll*
actually, bad company 2 was better...slightly. *more troll*
ok, seriosness now. team fortress 2. *triple troll!!!!!!!*
sorry, cod players. modern warfare (not 3) 1 and 2 (still no 3) were pretty good, not sure why everyone is complaining that it's campaign was too short. it was fine. there was spec ops too. black ops is alright, i guess.
im on a posting roll here!!!!
