The lights are on
Personally, I say the original release of Devil May Cry 3....but that could be because I had silent competition with friends in Ninja Gaiden, providing the motivation needed to get good at it and beat it. DMC3 just made me extremely angry.
DEVIL MAY CRY no contest
Ninja Gaiden 2 is way harder (and cheaper) than DMC3.
look upon me, I'll show you the life of the mind.
DMC3 could be made fairly easy by playing that first level over and over and over again to get red orbs. I did that a lot, upgraded a ton of stuff, and loaded up on healing items. Didn't have much trouble after that.

Ninja Gaiden. It provided a tough experience that let you know the game is out to kick your ass, It didn't care if you finished or if you enjoyed just being there. You either enjoy overcoming challenges without huge amounts of flash or you don't. I do enjoy the DMC series more than Ninja Gaiden, but it's definitely the easier of the two. It's more balanced, but easier.
