Well, I don't have a "scariest game", but I do have a scariest moment; It was my first run of Doom 3, the game sends you to find something or whatever, then it makes you come back the way you came.

I was lost for about 2 minutes when I saw a metallic stairs (downward) that I recognized, I quickly rushed down, went through the door, and stood in the hallway trying to make out where I was. I then checked my GPS (Duhhh), and turned towards the door that I recently came out of.

As I was about to head up the stairs, I noticed how there were two small, dim glimmers of light comming out from under the stairs.

My mouth just dropped, as I knew it was a creepy son of a *** alien-demon-whats-it hiding under the stairs, I almost dropped the controller out of pure dread, I mashed the area of the controller that I recognized as the D-Pad in a fail attempt of pulling out my shotgun, but the jerk jumped threw the stairs and mauled at my face (the game provided nice, cute zoom-ins of the demons face).

...You could immagine the sight of a "butch" 15 year-old male, sitting in his living room, staring at his 42" screen television in the middle of the night, being face ***-ed by 7 foot demons.

Resident Evil REmake on GCN was hella spooky. Also, the original Marathon for Macintosh had some very atmospheric music, and creative use of lighting. It creeped me out quite a bit.

Bioshock isnt a "scary game" per se, but deserves a mention. Dead Space is my favorite scary game though. Really good game, really good atmosphere, pretty good story. Loved it. RE4, which everyone hails as a "masterpiece", I really didnt like. Not my thing I guess...oh well.

Im not saying that this game is one of the scariest im saying its one of the best games with horror elements. It has a great storyline that is scary in itself if you really get into it and has its time in horror throughout the game and the action is a very big plus. Correct me if I'm wrong but thats my opinion

Silent Hill 3.

I remember being in the Hospital and going into a random room with a huge mirror and a sink. 'Okay, nothing's happening.' So I go to leave and I find the door locked. 'What the hell?' I proclaim and suddenly I hear a sound so I get freaked out. Turning around I see blood begin to seep in the mirror's reflection of the room but no blood on my side. It becomes seemingly sentient and flows into the sink on the reflection side, and THEN COMES OUT MY SIDE.

OH CRAP this can't be good. I veer for the door once more and it's still locked. By this time the reflection is devoid of blood. On the walls, on the ground. The final wedge to my heart was when my reflection stopped moving, seemingly consumed and overwhelmed by the blood. Afraid my heart was going to explode, I try the door again and it OPENED now that my side was overrun by blood. Seeing nothing happen in the reflection except for an unmoving bloody reflection while the real side became a bloody mess messed with my mind.

On the other side, I paused the game and went outside to take some fresh air, trying to get my heart rate to lower. WHEW.

resident evil 2 was the first scary game that i ever played and it blew me away, i jumped a few times but it wasn't until the original silent hill that a game actually scared me even when a horror movie couldn't . that game took me to a beautiful nightmare and haunted me badly. fatal frame was also scary. i love parasite eve but they didnt scare me. right now id say dead space is the current king of scares but overall my pick for all time scariest goes to the silent hill series

RE 1 holds a special place, it was absolutely incredible. But the game that completely immersed me was Dead Space, being a product of the 80s, and movies like Alien(s) it blew me away and kept me busy for 2 weeks after the kids and wife went to bed. Going to play on Hard or (is it legendary) mode soon, after I forget most of the details so the surprises seem fresher
