The lights are on
After the travesty of a list that Guiness put together for this, I want to know what a real community of gamers thinks. What is your top (or Top 10, you know I'm a sucker for those) video game ending.
Red Dead Redemption without a doubt. Arkham City, Uncharted 2, and Metal Gear Solid 4 were pretty great as well.
Portal. Everything leading up to the ending--from the fire pit onward--was amazing. Then the boss fight, then...you know, the part after the end. The story was delivered entirely by GlaDOS over the intercom and that part after the end, and it had more of an emotional impact on me than any game filled with cutscenes and lengthy dialogue trees.

I am a sucker for endings that surprise you on how far the writers are willing to go. Red Dead Redemption and Arkham City are perfect examples. A few games have put you in control of a cinematic ending that can really make you regret your actions. How long did you stare at the screen at the end of Snake Eater, or the evil ending of inFamous?
This just a list, not in order. I can probably list more, but 10 good enough and I can't think of others at this time.
1. Final Fantasy X
2. Gears of War 3
3. God of War 3
4. Red Dead Redemption
5. Halo Reach
6. Halo 3
7. Assassin's Creed: Revelations
8. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2, both endings
9. Batman: Arkham City
10. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The two that stand out in my mind are BioShock ("good" ending) and Resistance 2.
ocarina of time rocked but (and you will never believe this) my dog peed on my n64 just before I finished so I dont know the end (I just can't bring myself to it look it up on you tube. { : (
Metal Gear Solid 4 despite how long it was, Uncharted 2 is second, then Bioshock 2 (I can't bring myself to get the evil ending in this one :\ )
Bullets....*gasp* my only weakness!

The endings of FEAR 1 + 2, Mass Effect series, Condemned: Criminal Origins, Prey, and Metroid.
Who is John Galt? - Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
Mass Effect's is pretty great, with the space battles and the destruction of Sovereign *.*
There are a bunch of games with great endings though, I really like RDR's or Portal's, as already mentioned.

the one game that comes to mind id surprisingly a portable title metal gear solid peace walkers ending made me shed a tear "not kidding" but just for the heck of it my worst video game ending was conduit 2s it made no sense.
I am naming this time period "The Age of Flaccid Endings" because the majority of games fail to captivate their audiences with a good ending. Most games end after the climax of the story and with a tease to a sequel, because they will make more money. I've enjoyed Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy X, Ocarina of Time, and very few others. I believe storytelling should be more classical; what ever happened to the tragedy vs. comedy? Now we have a games that tell the story of a protagonist's rise to success or something similar, but rarely ever do we see the tragedy. Just a different perspective.
Safety is a lie.
The end of God of War III is pretty good in my opinion. I really love Arkham City's too.
Bioshock is definitely the best in my opinion. "Would You Kindly?" I must say that the fake Catwoman ending in Arkham City where you just leave with the loot was pretty good just because you had that brief moment of thinking the game was over from that decision.
In no exact order

9: The World Ends With You
8: Sin and Punishment Star Successor
