The lights are on
why do we still have fanboy/consle wars today? it just bugs me cuz it seems the only thing this war is doing is making gamers look bad,and at the same time,it seems developers and publishers just want to get their games out there so they could go "oh we have more games than you *sticks out tongue*" or "we use CD`S,you use Cartridges" this is getting as bad as the war between nintendo and sega. im sure if we didnt have this war, we would have better games, more innovation, better everything for gaming.
but why do we still have pointless fanboy wars?
More meant for a blog. this has flaming written all over it down the line. there is no reason but egos being fed.

People don't like feeling like they made the wrong purchase, at least that's the problem at it's core. Some people just develop this ridiculous attachment to their console of choice that makes them say the stupidest things when someone insults it. And the person who made the insult is just trying to defend their own pet console.
Small genitalia.
it has been going on ever since the atari 2600 put out that crappy version of pacman. when other home console companies started putting out their version of pac-man it was 'argueable' who had the better verison closest to the arcade version.

This.
But in all seriousness, its human nature IMO. Just another way to compete, just like games themselves.
oi... not the console wars...

Fear My Strings. Fear them.
It's the argument that 'my stuff is better than your stuff'. Once you have money sunk into something your going to defend it. You wouldn't buy a/ an *insert system of choice here* and say, "Wow... I f*ed up. This system sucks." You will be happy to own it and this... is where fanboys enter the picture.

I own every system I can get my hands on, who cares, they are all games and they are all fun to play. That's why I (we) buy them right?

Wait, wait, wait... The Nintendo vs Sega war was bad? Sorry, but you must not have lived during the great 16-Bit Wars, because that was arguably the best era in the history of gaming.
Simply put, you're missing the point. The console wars spur competition. The reason the 16-Bit Wars were so great was that Nintendo and Sega were almost evenly matched (the SNES eventually had about twice the sales of the Genesis) and this drove heated development and competition. It was a golden age as Sega and Nintendo worked overtime to pump out better and better titles and try to one-up each other, and while they were focused on software, things only got better and better. The list of quality games from those days is astronomical on both sides.
Back then, gamers were kids and typically only had one of the consoles. But here's the big difference to today: Attitude.
Gamers today have forgotten how to enjoy their consoles. Rather than championing exclusives and the perks of their chosen console, they whine and complain "why can't Uncharted be on Xbox?" "Why can't Alan Wake be on Playstation?" "Why can't Mario be multi-platform?"
This is a negative attitude. It's pessimism. It's buyer's remorse. The Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and Wii all have their exclusives, their shining stars, and their perks. At this point, if a gamer is unhappy about their console of choice, more than anything, it's from their lack of knowledge as to what the console actually offers. There was no shortage of great releases on any of these platforms these days.
The problem with the industry itself: Cost. Video games are more expensive than ever, so in order for devs to make their money back, they need to stuff the things on more platforms. This reduces exclusivity of games, and it reduces overall value of each console. Consoles are valuable not just for the hits on them, but more for the exclusive games that give it value.
The 16-Bit era? Tons of exclusives. Nintendo and Sega were at the peak of their game. Phantasy Star, Final Fantasy. Vectorman, Donkey Kong Country. Gunstar Heroes, Contra. Different Castlevania games. Different Ghouls and Ghosts games. Sonic, Super Mario. Eternal Champions, Killer Instinct. Different Street Fighter games. Different Jurassic Park games. Sega-CD, the FX chip. There were so many games, that gamers hardly had the time to complain about what they didn't have.
And interestingly, there are even more games now, but gamers somehow have the time to whine about what their console doesn't have. All that tells me is they either enjoy complaining for the sake of complaining, or they have no idea what their console even offers.
The console wars are good, and always have been good for the industry. Gamer attitudes are a different matter.
i think most of it is. person A can only afford one console. so he gets it and is jealous that he cant get the other one so in his mind he makes excuses and reasons to hate the other so he feels good about only having one.
secondly i think competition makes better results. look at what happened to the WWE.. yeah i know i'm bringing up wrestling haha but seriously.. during Monday night wars wrestling was the best thing ever! and now that McMahon has no competition the show isn't nearly as good as it used to be. So basically if you have no reason to keep pushing..you wont.
