New Gameinformer Survey

  • I just took the new gameinformer.com survey, and I'm starting to get worried. In the survey were questions about cancelling the magazine and just going with the website, such as "Would you trade in your gameinformer magazine subscription for full access to gameinformer.com" or something along those lines. I really hope that they're not getting any ideas. I love the site, but I love the magazine even more. It's much more organized, but more importantly, it just has a much better feeling. There's something about laying in bed reading an awesomely designed magazine, rather than just reading stuff on your computer.

I just don't want the Gameinformer staff getting ideas. I'm betting the rest of the community would agree  with me and would like to keep the magazine as well. What do you guys think?

  • I bring gameinformer to school with me every day and I severly pissed if i couldn't do that anymore cause Andy, Reiner, Joe, Ben, and the rest of the crew decided that the magazine thing was going out of style.

  • yeah man without the mag i have nothing to read while i'm droppin a duece

    Whatever peals your orange

  • If they do it, it will likely just be a side option. No need to worry.

Unless, of course, Game Informer is in some kind of rut and would rather not pay printing and distribution fees. Yeah, one of the nation's largest magazines in financial trouble. Like I said, no need to worry.

  • Oh God no!

Some people dont always have access to the internet...Im one of those people.

I like the certanty of having the magazine come to my house.

  • I completely agree with you; I think it should stay because it's easier to read, and you know where all your favorite articles will be, whereas compared to a website, especially the new game informer website, it just doesn't feel quite as organized. I also think the community expresses itself better in the front pages of the magazine than in the forums, kinda like what I'm doing now. And, the best part of it are the reviews: these are the results that I'm looking for, and it's why I bring the magazine with me to school as well; so we can all find the game that we're looking for. If they are, I sincerely would reject such an offer, and I would give up on video games entirely.

  • I think the GI staff is just putting their feelers out.  I don't think they'd go with an online-only version of their magazine.  I think it would be disasterous.  What would you really own if you had to get online, connect to a server in another timezone, and logon to get it? As I stated after I made my survey comments, there's nothing like touching/feeling/seeing the tangibles you purchase.  Digital copies and downloads can vanish in an instant.

  • Like with my games, I prefer hard copies of magazines.  Besides, if they did a digital only subscription, what would keep people from taking a ton of screen captures of the magazine and then make it available for all to see for free on some random blogging site or something?

  • i would be very upset if they did a online-only magazine. I love getting my mag in the mail and collecting them.

  • I highly doubt they'd get rid of the hard copy over the internet, not just because of other reasons stated, but also that the new look for the magazine would hold less purpose and that they would'nt make money from selling copies.

This is the most awesome sentance you've ever read.

  • And you got all this from a survey? Dude, they just relaunched the frickin' magazine. They aren't replacing it with a shiny website anytime soon.

Happily ever after, amen. Now where's that cake?

  • I'm not worried.  I'm a magazine/newspaper guy myself and seeing the expiration date ticking on these beloved media forms is sad.  But the guys that run the magazine are print-junkies as well.  You don't get into the magazine business unless you love it.  It all comes down to finances.  Gamepro didn't stop their presses because they thought that magazines weren't "hip" or "cool" anymore.  It was a heartbreaking financial decision.  GI is in good shape as far as I know.  We'll be getting our mags for a while.

  • If they went to digital only, I will never subscribe to GI ever again.

It's bad enough one of my favorite sections, the Game Over trivia section, was not in the new issue.

I'm not liking the direction that my beloved Game Informer Magazine, which I have had a steady subscription to for 5 years, and total subscription time of 7 years, is heading

What's to stop someone from scanning the print magazine and posting the scans somewhere for all to see?  Same difference.

I took the survey and I said a digital version of GI would be fine.  I don't need a print magazine if I can get the same content online.  However, I don't think they're just going to abruptly stop printing the physical magazine.  If anything, like someone said, they'll probably just offer a choice.  It would cut down on costs for them if a chunk of their subscribers switched to a digital subscription.  We'll see what happens though.

  • That will stop my collection.
