The facts don't seem to bear this out.

Still, it's not uncommon for women who are greatly disliked to be called ugly by men.  I believe it's because those men cannot distinguish a woman's talent or personality from her sexuality.  They're so eager to reject her music and her celebrity that they need to degrade her sexuality.

Wrong again.Obviously you know nothing about Metallica.They  got super popular and in this case the quality is what made them so popular, because of touring and word of mouth and magazines,in the 80's.They didnt get air play nor video rotation on mtv until their 4th album  " And  Justice For All ". who cares if they didnt stay thrash.People like you just dont get it, bands do something called evolve.The same old formula gets stale.Like flesh balloon above me said their earlier work is still classic.The first four albums are nothing short of classic albums.They didnt go mainstream until the black album.Thats when they commercialized their sound so they could reach a bigger audience.Which actually didnt hinder them in my eyes.They helped popularize metal them Anthrax and Megadeth. Oh and they went platinum on their first four albums by word of mouth touring and magazines and the help of their first video the song one.Which became so popular the radio began playing them.

Masters of Puppets was released under Elektra - under roughly already a major label (subdivision of Warner Group). Their first four albums have ripped off Thrash metal constantly and for the spurs of quality - as I'll admit there is quality, they are far from classic albums. What on earth are you also whining about that they didn't stay thrash, etc.? I mentioned clearly that Kreator and Venom influenced entirely different forms of metal, and you tell me they didn't evolve? Maybe they didn't themselves, but their impact ended up being subliminally greater and more important than Metallica's want to give up Thrash for things that doesn't even legitimately evolve their sound. Metallica popularized metal, but that does not make them amazingly perfect and God's gift to metal for doing such a thing, especially since popularity in the music industry tends to equate to less artistic want and more pay check want.

Quality =/= Popularity, as well - will you just stop implying that already? It defeats common sense. Popularity can never equate to genuine quality to all persons. Metallica evolved to what major labels saw them to evolve to - inevitably they accepted anything for the check. That is a legitimate fact in their actions and their "artistic" direction.

Promotion by use of major label still happened for Metallica to help them popularize their music, etc. Once they got their radio play, they officially gotten rid of their want to produce quality music - they were more in tune for the check rather than a balance of their personal artistic ambitions and blend of finance.

"You know nothing of Metallica" - you don't seem to realize promotion for artists goes beyond MTV and radio, and you can still have incredible loads of advertisement for shows, etc. by major labels.

Uh, yes, cause albums are entirely perfect or entirely useless, right? Masters of Puppets had at most 3 worthwhile tracks for me, whereas after And Justice for All nothing was left for Metallica.

You're the one saying popularity = quality music. I did not say Metallica's Masters of Puppets was as trash as a Slipknot album. I said it's not God's gift to metal, for one, and afterwards, they were completely horrible.

By the way, if you take that logic that popularity is equal to quality, then I guess Adolf Hitler was a great ruler because he was popular for his country. =D

Let me guess your going to tell me that Led Zepplin is a horrible band now too.Quit taking what I said out of context.Again I said they sell millions of albums and sellout almost every damn concert so obviously some one likes them alot.Im sorry but most people measure success by how well something sells, yes there are exceptions like yes there are bands and movies and games that sell well but still suck, but Metallica doesnt fall into that category.They are in a league all their own.Myself  critics and other fans along with some well respected rock bands believe this.When peolple mention quality rock music they are mentioned along with bands like Zepplin Sabbath and others.

Again, no matter how much we criticize OR defend our/others' bands, we are not going to change the opinions of others of whether a band sucks or is spectacular.

It wastes a ton of space on this thread and defeats its whole purpose, which is simply to state the band or artist you dislike.

I say drop the conversation concerning "Mainstream Metal vs Success vs Quality," for people have different tastes for music and its genre, as well as what they think makes it quality.
