  • I wish SpaceGhost would come out of retirement.

  • I really miss the anime.  I didn't mind staying up for shows like Evangelion, Lupin III, Cowboy Bebop, Deathnote, etc, because they were just so good.  But now Adult Swim has basically segregated Anime to Saturday night, and even then, the only anime worth talking about before two in the morning is Bleach.  I think AS takes its anime fans for granted because they're the only basic cable channel that shows much of it

The real problem is that AS is running on fumes in terms of programming.  They want to be more than marginal in the ratings game, so they spam the hell out of Family Guy and King of the Hill (AKA, the two shows that anyone outside their core demographic has ever possibly heard about) for two hours every night.  By the time they're done with that it's midnight, leaving two hours until they start everything over again at two.  It's a schedule that maximizes ratings and minimizes all the qualities AS wants its viewers to believe it has, like youthful daring and spontaneity.

Right now, Venture Brothers (and Metalocalypse, soon) is about all that keeps me coming back to AS.  I still like shows like Aqua Teen, etc, but they're nothing to make a point of watching every night when they are almost always in re-runs.

  • The issue I have w/ more anime is that it would mean more poorly localized versions of shows that were good (or at least decent) before they came across the Pacific (read: Inuyasha).  They definitely need to break up the two hours of KOTH/Family Guy (I've never really like KOTH, and I stopped watching Family Guy regularly about a year ago).

They could really do w/ more thirty minute blocks dedicated to their original shows in place of the KOTH/Family Guy slots(like they do now w/ Robot Chicken, Aqua Teen, and Metalocalypse).  And bring Venture Bros. back to weeknights! (speaking of which I need to put some new stuff into my DVR).

  • I watched KOTH on another station as reruns.  It was fine the second time around but to intrupt my swim for a third viewing. (Shaking his head).  New anything would be nice.

  • I remember when they stopped showing anime as frequently.  Their exact reason was, "We gave you two weeks of anime movies and you didn't want them.  What more do you want from us?"  The sad truth is that the viewer base for the anime isn't really as strong as we'd like to think it is.

That said I really do miss the days of uncut anime like Yu Yu Hakusho and early stages of Inuyasha.  I really miss all of the anime they used to show.  Somebody brought up the Midnight Run on Toonami.  I definitely remember the original five-hour run of anime in the wonderful block.

What they show now is... decent I guess.  KOTH sucks and always has (but maybe I just don't get it).  I've always been a fan of Family Guy, but after seeing every episode like 18 times, the jokes have lost some of their zing.

AS needs an overhaul I guess.  We probably won't see one any time soon though.

    Turtwig is my homeboy.

  • Even if the anime wasn't as popular as the original shows, I think it still made sense to show it in the back half of the schedule.  I'd say that most of the anime they show is dubbed very well; Cowboy Bebop and Death Note come to mind especially in that regard.

I find it funny that AS's website distinguishes between "Action" and "Comedy," when the actual distinction is "Japanese" and "Not Japanese."  The fact that the action tab has only ten shows (which only get shown late on Saturday nights), while the comedy tab has thirty five, makes you wonder why they don't just dump anime altogether.

  • If you guys want more anime I suggest syfy's 11-1:00am monday slot. usually pretty basic stuff [1 hour new 1 hour reruns, sometimes just anime movies]. They do air Gurrun logon and Gundam 00 which at times are both really good. I'm currently on adultswim withdrawel thanx to comcast dropping cartoon network. I can't get one of those stupid boxes.

  • Family guy, and KOTH both shouldnt be considered adult swim, due to neither actually having the tone of humor as say....ATHF, or Robot Chicken, or the GOAT Venture brothers. i love that show, or Boondocks..lol man I love that show too!

    SQUIDBILLIES FTW!

  • I love Family Guy!

    Hoorah!

  • Yeah, I never did get why AS shows a few shows, then recycles the exact same shows at 2AM.  Don't recycle, add variety dang it.

  • The sad thing is, it's not the shows that are bad, it's the programing. They should really just have a weekly rotation, with every day of the week featuring one or two shows in the place of one episode of Family Guy and King of the Hill.

There are some great show AS could be airing that I haven't seen in quite a while, most notably Home Movies, The Brak Show, and Lucy Daughter of the Devil. Let's not even get started on the anime or the fact that The Venture Brothers doesn't air on weekdays.

  • Space Ghost, The Brak Show, Sealab 2021, and maybe Moral Orel should all be brought back. Why don't they just post one new episode of a show every weekday instead of only on Sunday?

  • KING OF THE HILL FTW

    FAMILY GUY FTW

    ANIME FTW

    :D FTW

  • The last time I checked, Ethan (and it's been a while), Home Movies is still on.  It's at, like, 12:30 or something.
