The lights are on
With all the unbelievable hype about raved director and writer James Cameron's new movie, Avatar, its probably no suprise you have seen it already. And I am proud to say that this movie exceeds beyond my expectations...
I have seen this movie last Sunday, but I only have found the time to review it today. So I'm sure you have ready many other critic's reviews about Avatar. But I really want to share my own personal opinion about this extroidanary movie.
To be honest, I was a bit skeptical about this movie before I saw it. I knew that it was written and directed by James but by trailers the Navi looked a bit unreal. Well ovbiously since they are aliens but by that I mean cheesy and too, I don't know, cheesy. But I have been proved wrong. These native aliens of Pandora are so lifelike and have such a deep culture I forgot they were made entirely of animation and CG. I was so absorbed in them and emotionally attached I felt their pain and their need for the land the humans were trying to steal from them. Graphically this movie is groundbreaking, and is certain to change the way movies are going to be made. The enviroments look so REAL, and James did an incredible job portryaing the beautiful world of Pandora. I admire the way James ran his imagination wild, as there are many different plants and animals. The way he created the Navis culture and world is just unspeakable. The moment you are introduced to them you know they have a lot of backstory and culture.
The story that takes place here is nothing new, humans are planning to take land from aliens for valuable minerals. Its basically like Dances With Wolves, for you guys who have seen it. But once again, the way James directed it is just so dang AMAZING! I don't know how many times I could stress that out. Even though the script isn't too original, somehow he makes it feel fresh. He made this possible with deep characters and the stunning graphics. Everyone knows that James could deliver emotional relationships between two characters (Titanic) and he did that here also. In an unique way. Yeah I know, aliens in love sounds a bit cheesy, but as I mentioned, the Navi is so lifelike that you believe they are real. The acting is sometimes overly dramatic, but it fits in perfectly.
You have to see this movie to experience the magic and emotion James has put in it, and I strongly recommened you to watch it in 3D. For those who are not big fans of 3D, don't be unsure to watch it in 3D. Its not the kind that pops out at you, but the kind that pulls you in, immerses you, and creates the atmosphere.
Thank you guys for reading this review!!!

Your colors make my eyes sad.
You should read my Blog. This week: once again, a Poetry JAM!
I think this should've been blogged. But I'm gonna beat the dead horse when I say that it is a meh film that rips off of Dances With Wolves that still benefits from strong visuals.
Enigma's Blog
I agree with enigma.
"A season for all things. A time to live, and a time to die, a time to build...and a time to destroy!"
Lot of haters I see....
More of this? Are you serious Candle Light? Did you even see the same movie the rest of us did? Enigma and you are right that this movie is a 100% rip off of Dances With Wolves, Ferngully and a host of other movies, games and books. Let me state that I enjoyed the movie. Though the story was told well, that doesn't change the fact that it's a bad story. Avatar had so much room and ability to make a strong and compelling story, but Cameron opted for the black and white story, where humanity is depicted as an evil and greedy people that will let nothing stand in the way of their progress, yet displayed the Na'vi as likable, innocent and peaceful. The story could have been much better if it were more balanced, instead of taking the usual liberal route Hollywood takes so that they can give their misguided opinions about big business and the military.
Again, I found the movie entertaining. However, it was no where near what it was advertised as, and other than the CG in the movie, it's entirely forgettable.
When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.
I wonder if some of you are serious. Does anyone actually WATCH movies anymore? Or do they just try to quickly summarize and compare them to something else that's not even remotely a good comparison?
So much imagination and creativity was put into every facet of the world of Pandora, but people are focusing on half-assed Dances with Wolves comparisons?
God *** Star Wars, Its just like Seven Samurai.
God *** Titanic, Its just like that real-life ship that sunk.
EDIT: And The Ten Commandments is just a rip-off of the Bible AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT.
Got it, bro?
dude, cool it with the colors...
If it's hostile, kill it
idc if its a ripoff. i thought it was an awesome movie worthy of the praise.
Just imagine.
Did you all miss the part where the advertisements touted Avatar as the greatest movie of our generation? I never once said that Avatar was a bad movie, and I have countless times commented on how amazing the movie looks, and I have given it due credit. I am simply pointing out that this movie isn't a generation defining epic like they said it would be. You can't make a movie like this and have such a black and white, unoriginal story, and run around claiming it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
In a year or two, when the next step up in technology comes in movies, you all will forget this movie, just like we all did Dances With Wolves and Ferngully, until I saw Avatar, at least.
My opinion is that this movie is an entertaining movie, but the story leaves much to be desired. Hopefully the inevitable sequel will patch some holes and turn this into the story it could have been.

Said it in the other thread about this movie, and I'll say it again.
The visuals and creativity of Pandora were stellar. Everything else was mediocre.
Is it a rip off of Dances with Wolves, or is Dances with Wolves simply the most well known example of a story type that is actually quite venerable?
If you ask me, saying a movie rips off several different sources is the same as saying that those sources do not themselves have any claim to the material. It's just an archetype at that point.
