I agree with you towel. Bosses are extremely important for RPGs.
Boss battles need to be challenging, but not too challenging in a game, otherwise the game could be frustrating or boring. Finding the right mix between challenging and fun can be a pretty hard thing to do.
it completely depends on the game, i agree with the post below...games like gta dont need boss battles.... however boss battles are very important to most games and help tie a sense of accomplishment into your experience...dark souls is a fantastic example of this. some games miss on this big time......getting to the final boss should never be harder then actually fighting him/her... in this case i feel they put a boss because they felt obligated to.....which is generally a disapointment
