The lights are on
So with all the rumors flying around about next gen's having used games blocked or even being digital distribution only which got me thinking. The person who really gets the shaft in this is used game store sellers like GameStop. GameStop closing doesn't bother me to much, but GameStop also owns GameInformer.
Does that mean the next consoles could potentially kill all GI and all GI related content?
Well like you said, if GameStop goes down, expect Game Informer to go down along side it. However, another company may wish to buy Game Informer to keep it running, but it may have some changes. Now all of this is pure speculation and what if's, but yeah those are the possibilities.
I don't think it will happen.
And I think Game Informer makes enough money on it's own to stay open. So GameStop might use it as it's main income of money to stay running. It will just close everything else.
@Gesar:
I don't think you understand how it works. While you may be true that Game Informer can hold out on it's own, if GameStop wants to close it down, they will. And if GameStop is going down, that means not even Game Informer can save them. While it would prolong the life of GameStop just a bit, it won't be enough. Either way, this is just a bunch of what if's and such, but if the next gen console rumors do hold true, then I fear that this may actually become a reality.
