With all the great games recently released I'm sure no one's thinking about buying a poorly reviewed game right now, but during recent gaming droughts when only a couple fantastic games (or perhaps, none) came out surely you thought about getting a few 6.0s or 5.0s. I wouldn't exactly say a 6.0 or below couldn't be a buy, but they're games you should be cautious about, maybe renting or borrowing it first. So, the questions of which I ask of you are, do you buy poorly reviewed games? And if you do, what cautions do you take before buying? And if you just buy a poorly reviewed game because you think you'll like it...how's that been working out for you? And (last question, I swear) if you don't, under any circumstance, buy a poorly reviewed game, why?

I have bought many. Some of them were pretty good...some of them deserved there poor review. I usually play demos, or buy used if its a game that got a really bad review, or i'm not sure i'll be that into it. That way i can just return it. Most of the games i've gotten based on my enjoyment of the demo have been pretty good with only a couple exceptions.

I've always considered a review as suggestion; not a guideline. I dont buy every game that gets a high score just because it got a high score either. :)

Usually I'll only buy a bad game if I really love the series, or its a genre I need a game for. But, I usually don't

I did once buy Top Gear Dare Devil for PS2, back before I started reading game reviews.  Ironically, I actually had fun w/ it at the time...

I have in the past experimented despite reviews. Dante's Inferno got a 6.75 second oppinion and I thought it was not only a good game, but a great one. It had a great combat system and some a very dark storyline. Sure, it was a Christian version of GoW but I loved it. I also bought Splatterhouse, which critically was not a very well recieved game. Users, however, seemed to enjoy it and I did as well. Exploitation at it's best.

In fact, looking back I'd say I've been cheated more by well recieved games than otherwise. I thought Dead Rising 2, Dead Island, and Bayonetta were over-rated and I traded them in only weeks after purchasing them.

I guess when I buy games I'll consider the company that made it before I outright dismiss it. Splatterhouse, for example, was a Namco/Bandai game. I've given trust in Namco in the past and it paid off. If I've never heard of the company that made it, though, I won't buy it unless it recieves a good review. People Can Fly is one such company; I waited for a review of Bulletstorm before I purchased it.

Not anymore thanks to the many reviews that can be found out there.

In this current gen I have bought bought games that haven't been received well and have been pleasantly surprised.

Alpha Protocol and Other M come to mind.

Not unless its a Sonic Game.

I've bought some games that got low review scores, but only when they got to low prices. For example I just bought Dungeon Siege 3 for $5 (PC), even though it got low review scores. However, I did play the demo when it first came out and I kind of liked it. Also, I too liked Dante's Inferno, it was a fun game.

Yeah, I thought Dungeon Siege 3 was great. I bought it on release for my PS3 I was so excited about it. I'm not sure what the score was but I know I ended up putting around 60 hours into it.

I usually buy whatever catches my interest. I only take reviews as an opinion, but the opinion that matters is my own. Just because a reviewer says a games bad doesn't mean that some of us gamers aren't going to enjoy it. Every game is worth at least one playthrough.

Usually but sometimes i see something on sale for dirt cheap and i figure i can get $5 worth of fun out of a game no matter how bad it is. Also if i buy something when its first released, but there are no reviews for it then so im not sure if that counts.

i've gotten some games solely because i was curious. then i'll like it, look at the review, then i'll see that the review was low. best example is Crackdown 2. I liked the first one so i got the second one.

I only be games with mediocre scores if I'm a fan, if not, then I usually just gamble and give it a chance
